  • Biotechnology is the scientific manipulation of living organisms, especially at the molecular genetic level.
  • The combination of theoretical and practical studies focusing on microbiology and related disciplines is designed for students planning to work in the biotechnology sector. Honours Biotechnology is offered in cooperation with the BC Institute of Technology (BCIT).
  • Students must complete a 30-credit first-year program at UBC before transferring to BCIT for two years.
  • Then they return to UBC for two years of academic and co-op work terms.
  • Some applications of biotechnology include the genetic engineering of food crops for disease or pest resistance, creating new medicines, and, in the environmental sector, the development of bacteria that consume toxic chemicals and reduce pollution.
  • Enjoy hands-on laboratory training and high-calibre foundational courses as you learn about scientific manipulation of living organisms. This program equips you with current scientific and technical expertise and the business and communication skills to start your biotechnology career as soon as you graduate.
  • Biotechnology harnesses our scientific understanding of biology and chemistry to create products, processes, or services relevant to areas such as health, energy, agriculture, and the environment.
  • Biotechnology applications include the design and production of vaccines, the discovery of new antibiotics, genetic engineering of tissues, the design of disease and drought resistant crops, and clean-up of environmental pollutants.

Hello. I am Grace Idachaba from Nigeria. I have completed my bachelors of science in Nursing (4 year course) in Norther Cyprus. I graduated in July of 2023. I have no other experience apart from the internship placements we had during our time in school. This is due to the language barrier we face here (Turkish). Am I still elidgible to apply for the MSc in Nursing program at UBC?
