The Bachelor of Accountancy degree will prepare you for excellent opportunities in public accounting practice, and in business, government and nonprofit organizations. You may also advance your education through the Master of Accountancy or the MBA degree.

Our Bachelor of Accountancy degree program provides a solid foundation for career paths in public accounting (auditing, taxation, consulting) as practiced in large, medium, and small firms; corporate accounting (including financial management, controllership, treasury, financial analysis, planning and budgeting, cost accounting, internal audit, systems, taxation, and general accounting); and government and nonprofit accounting.

NMSU accounting majors are recruited extensively by employers in public accounting practice and in corporate, governmental, and nonprofit organizations. Accounting employers come from all over the nation to recruit at NMSU, and while most of our graduates begin their careers in or near New Mexico, recent graduates have jobs with national accounting firms in locations such as Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, San Antonio.

Academic Requirements:

  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education with English translation if not in English
  • Official transcripts must be evaluated by a NACES approved agency 
  • Students should have a minimum GPA of 2.75 or equivalent on a scale of 4.0
  • Submit English Language Proficiency scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 520 in PBT; 68 in iBT
  • IELTS: minimum 6.0 
  • Duolingo: minimum score of 95
