Duke's Department of Theatre Studies combines scholarly theatre research with productions of plays both old and new, from all over the world and the creation and development of new performance works. Their courses are designed to encourage problem-solving in collaboration with others; effective communication with language, visual images, bodily expression; and critical thinking. Their focus on the development of intellectual and artistic skills, through study and production experience, helps prepare students for careers not only in professional theatre but also in a wide variety of other fields.
