Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- So MSU was pocket friendly for me, I was able to complete my STEM degree with around 34lakhs INR. The other university I applied to was little expensive and 2 yrs long, I didnt want to waste my time for 2 long years.

Tips to enhance your application
- So I followed what ever they mentioned in the application form. Its pretty detailed and they will literally spoon feed you with what exactly they want from you during the application process. You just need to carefully follow everything.
- LORs and SOPs are very important in the application process. IELTS / TOEFL and GRE/GMAT any one among those are required, you can also request for application fee waiver and GMAT or GRE waiver but I dont think they are accepting this now.
Admission Experience
- First of, my initial choice was UK, But I did not had much idea about post education employement process in UK and the opportunities aren't as high as USA which made me choose USA. And there are lot of resources to guide us for the USA application, post graduation process and everything. I made sure all the universities I chose are within top 100 in USA and most important thing to check was if the course I chose was STEM or not. I wanted to explore a new university which not many people choose, So I went with MSU. My Overall experience was short and sweet with lot of warmth. When ever I think about my university all that I think of is how warm everyone are over there and how inclusive my campus was. It gives small town big dreams and cozy vibes. Lot to do, lot to explore.
Class Schedule
- You will have nearly 3 to 4 classes per week and they totally depend on semester. One day of the week would be full of classes from morning 8am to eveng 5pm EST with breaks in between but rest of the days you might’ve only 1 or 2 classes per day. and 3 days per week.
- Average Strength would be 35 to 40 students in a class. It depends, In our cohort out of 40 students 25 were from India but the next year cohort had only 8 people from India. You will have to work really hard as my course is only 1 yr, you will have all the subjects to complete in a year.
Faculty
- Faculty, I can rate them 4/5 as they are very friendly and accommodating. They provide Assistantships if we meet their requirements. I don't have a favorite professor cause everyone did their part, they are good at what they teach. And each professor has 2 to 3 assistant professors who can help us with our doubts and everything.
Campus Life
- I had the best experience in my University. Our campus is nearly 5000 acres. We have a Ice Skating Arena, Really Big sports Grounds. 3 Fitness Centers along with badminton, Squash, Basketball courts, Yoga rooms , Gyms and Swimming Pools. Its totally free for students to Use. They also have Dance classes for students like Salsa, Zumba etc. Along with guided workout sessions. We have nearly 3 big Libraries along with study areas in every campus.
- Our university has Indian clubs who host parties like winter ball, Spring fest, Movie nights, Garba Nights, Ganesh Chathurthi and Diwali and New year events as well. There is an inside saying that we can get free food everyday in our campus if we follow all the events hosted in our campus everyday, You always have something or other happening.
Part Time Jobs
- We have plenty of TA or RA opportunities around the campus, You just need to pro actively reachout to everyone like professors, seniors, research staff and stuff. Send out emails, draft a good resume and cover letter. You also have Part time availability, but you need to look proactively for that too.
- Yes, you will find all kinds of job in there and max hours you can work is 20hr per week not more than that. But you need to network and look around a lot for jobs is what I experienced. Pay depends on the type of job, I really cannot give you one particular number cause it depends. I would request you to check in the website.
Placement
- So, No university in USA can guarantee an international student a full time job. Its all you, You need to start working on your skills, applications and everything is what I feel. Even Ivy League students are struggling on their own to get a job, University is just a platform which allows you to get work permit and a valuable degree. Salary range depends on experience, field of job and company size and requirements. Students use LinkedIn to apply for jobs. There are no high or low salaries in this economy and times, its just employed or unemployed.
Accommodation
- You have a website called apartments.com which apparently shows all the off campus housing in that area, even university also helps us to find off campus accomodation like Club, Village and Landings are the places where most off campus students live. You need to apply with your i20 and stuff. Also you need to have a guarantor, if you dont you need to pay 2 months rent as deposite which would be around $1000.
