Shawna Katz Review at University Of California [UC DAVIS], Davis | Collegedunia

UC Davis Lifestyle

I love UC Davis, it is a good mix of competitive academics and lifestyle outside of classes. Some classes are definitely very challenging, but there are many extracurricular activities that help to destress from these challenging courses. UC Davis is also very diverse, so many people are able to find like-minded friends to surround themselves with.

Course Curriculum :

Price and proximity to home, it is also fairly competitive for my program. This school is great for research experience as it is a research institution, but I find that many of the required courses are unnecessary, with lots of memorization that is not relevant for future careers

Exams :

A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for admission, and must complete 15 A-G courses in high school. I had to write 4 short essays of 350 words each, and had to include my high school activities and experiences

Internship :

There are not many great opportunities post-graduation with a bachelors degree, most students have to pursue a masters program to have feasible career options

Fees :

$36,912 per year for in-state students who live in off-campus apartments, this cost includes the estimated cost of rent, food, and utilities

Faculty :

The quality of professors vary quite a bit, there are some professors that are passionate about what they teach and with helping students, but there are also some professors who care more about their research and don’t put in as much effort to help students. Some great professors are Dr. Nord, Dr. Enderle, Laci Gerhart-Barley, Dr. Namekawa, Professor Bragg

Campus Life :

UC Davis has many clubs, so anyone can find something that they are passionate in. Once a year, UC Davis also hosts picnic day, which is our biggest event of the year. As a research institution, there is also many labs that one can join. Our library is not great compared to some other schools, and there are many areas on campus where the wifi does not work

Hostel :

All first year students are required to stay in the on-campus residential halls, which are typically 2-3 bed dorm rooms. Room and board costs about $18,000 for students for that academic year
