UMass Amherst is a good university with a lot of resources and facilities that can aid students to help their studies. Faculties are pretty good except for some who don't know how to teach. There are plenty of research opportunities. Careers team is really good. But the location of campus limits the number of career fairs we can attend. There is housing crunch in Amherst.
Course Curriculum :
The courses and curriculum are good. Syllabus is structured properly and ensure to provide us with hands on experience. Projects and assignments are practical oriented. For industrial exposures, there are some courses as well as student organizations. For research experience, we can do independent study with professors.
Exams :
My scores: GRE 150 verbal, 166 Quant 3.5 writing. TOEFL 108/120. Yeah. I submitted SOP, 3 LORs and also CV. 2 LORs from professors and one from manager.
Placement :
Placements are good. But there is a limitation due to location of the university. Amherst is a college town and there are no much tech companies. Research opportunities are pretty good as far as I know.
Internship :
I did not do any internship or co-op.
Fees :
It's around $16000 a semester if we take 2 offline courses and one online course. It can be more if we take 3 in offline classes.
Faculty :
Some of the faculties are really good . Whereas some are not good in teaching. But, all the faculties are very knowledgeable about the course they are teaching and are also very helping.
Campus Life :
Campus life is good, infrastructure is good. There are a lot of resources on campus that can help us study. There are a lot of organizations and clubs for your interests. Wi-Fi is not very good. Libraries are really good.
Hostel :
There is no accommodation on campus for master's students. Rather there is a resource crunch in Amherst. But I was able to get a very convenient place off campus. Rents are high.
