UNIRAJ Ph.D Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for PhD admissions at UNIRAJ, candidates must fulfull the following requirements:

  • An applicant to any of the various Ph.D programmes must have a minimum requirement of at least 60% marks (a relaxation of 5% is given to SC/ST/Physically Handicapped/Visually Impaired candidates) or a higher second division in Master's Degree or equivalent in the related field. 
  • Candidates having a valid NET – JRF qualification certificate will be given admission. The NET – JRF qualification certificate should not be more than two years old at the time of approving the proposal for the degree of the Ph.D. 
  • Direct admission of those candidates who have completed M. Phil. through UNIRAJ MPAT exams or of those candidates whose M. Phil result is awaited; will also be considered for admission in the PhD program

UNIRAJ Ph.D Admission Process

The applications for PhD program are open throughout the year. Interested candidates can check the DSW link on UNIRAJ website and apply accordingly. Admission to Ph.D. programmes at University of Rajasthan will be made subject to the number of vacant seats in the concerned subject/department. The merit list of all candidates will be prepared department-wise by giving 70% preference to UNIRAJ-PAT scores and the rest 30% to interview. Final admission will be made subject to verification of documents, equivalence of P.G. degree, availability of seats and supervisors.

The selection of candidates at for PhD at UNIRAJ is done on the basis of scores secured in UNIRAJ-PAT. Candidates having a valid NET – JRF qualification certificate and those who have completed M.Phil through UNIRAJ MPAT exams or whose M.Phil results are awaited are not required to appear for the entrance exam. 40% of the total seats available in each department will be filled through this process. UNIRAJ PhD Entrance Exam: UNIRAJ-PAT

UNIRAJ-PAT is an offline entrance exam conducted by the University of Rajasthan for admission to all its Ph.D programmes. The test consists of one paper with two sections. Section-I consists of 75 MCQs based on Research Methodology of the concerned department and Section-II consists of 75 MCQs from the subject concerned. The duration of the test is two hours and there is no negative marking for any questions.

Ques. Should foreign students appear for UNIRAJ-PAT?

Ans. Ans. No, foreign students are not required to appear for UNIRAJ-PAT exams. The admission criteria for foreign students will be based on merit or the student will be subjected to the decision of the Equivalence Committee. Such students must apply and register themselves online on the university's official website for admissions. They will also be required to submit their medical reports in order to seek admissions. 

Ques. Is UNIRAJ-PAT mandatory for admissions to Ph.D at Rajasthan University?

Ans. Yes, UNIRAJ-PAT is mandatory for admissions to Ph.D courses, except in some exceptional cases. Candidates who want to apply for Ph.D programme at University of Rajasthan must also register for UNIRAJ-PAT. Ans. No, UNIRAJ-PAT is an entrance exam conducted offline by the university. Students can apply for this exam on the official website of the university, @uniraj.ac.in. However, those who have registered for this test must appear for it in-person, at the exam centres allotted to them. An online exam choice is not given to the candidates. 

Ques. Who is eligible for an interview after UNIRAJ-PAT?

Ans. Students who clear UNIRAJ-PAT with 50% marks will be eligible for the interview round. Out of this 50%, a relaxation of 5% is allowed for students belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MBC(non-creamy layer)/EWS/Differently-abled category. The call for interview will be made two times the number of Ph.D seats available in the university. 

Ques. Who is allowed a relaxation in the duration of Ph.D?

Ans. Women candidates and persons with disability (more than 40% disability) are given a relaxation of two years for completion of Ph.D in the maximum duration. However, the total period for completion of Ph.D in such cases must not exceed ten years from the date of admission to Ph.D programme.

Ques. What is the maximum duration for pursuing Ph.D?

Ans. Ph.D candidates at Rajasthan University must note that the maximum duration for Ph.D must not exceed eight years from the date of admission to Ph.D programme. In case of women candidates and candidates with more than 40% disability, the maximum duration for Ph.D must not exceed ten years. 

Ques. Should I submit a write-up during my interview fo UNIRAJ Ph.D?

Ans. Yes, candidates are required to submit a write-up during their interview at UNIRAJ. It must be of 1000-1500 words on the topic of the candidate's choice. The write-up must contain points such as statement of the problem, review of literature, and methodology. This is to be presented before the DRC at the time of interview.
