As with other qualifying law degrees, we cover the Foundations of Legal Knowledge but you can expect much more. LLB students are taught in an ideal setting of interactive workshops complemented by lectures and web-based materials. The course is designed to give you essential legal knowledge and to allow you to develop the skills you will need for your future career. Students benefit from a programme of workshops where small groups allow interactivity and an improved learning environment. These are complemented by lectures and web-based materials. Year 1 focuses on building up your legal knowledge and skills. You will develop a sound grasp of the English legal system and the skills needed to settle into academic life. You will also cover the areas of knowledge that are essential to understanding the law.

In Year 2 you continue to cover core areas of the law, but you will also have a chance to choose electives that match your interests and aspirations. You will start to reflect on your career preferences and prepare for the world of employment.

In Year 3 you will have the chance to tailor the degree to your interests ? choosing to study from a range of electives that cover a broad spectrum of legal areas. You will also have the opportunity to work on a dissertation in an area of your choice.

Your career prospects after the course

A law degree is thorough, rigorous and can be attractive to a range of employers.

Many of our students go on to qualify as solicitors and barristers, or secure work in legal services, but others have found work in charities, the civil service and IT.

You could also pursue further academic research, or a career as a lecturer.
