Course Curriculum

8

  • My course is very relevant for the present and future, as the world is shifting to more renewable and sustainable energy sources.
  • No industry experience, but we had a research project (dissertation) in the second semester.
  • We have a maximum of 3 or 4 classes in a day, of 45 mins each.
  • We had almost 40 students in our class.

Tips to enhance your application

  •  Documents required: 10th and 12th standard grade sheet, Passport, Graduation certificate, Official academic transcript (Undergraduate), LOR (at least 2), IELTS score certificate, CV, and Statement of purpose.

Admission Experience

  • I had applied to a number of Universities in the UK, and the University of Southampton was the first one to give me an offer. Also, the University belongs to the Russell group of institutions and has a really good QS ranking. My course is accredited by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), which is looked at by employers. Also, the University accommodation was near to the campus. Southampton is close to London.
  • I applied through an agency (IDP). They guided me through the admission process. After the initial application, where I submitted my documents, I got a conditional offer. I had to apply for an ATAS certificate. After submitting all of these , the University gave me an unconditional offer and CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies) letter, after which I applied for my visa.
  • The University, infrastructure and course are really good and relevant for the future. The course is also related to what I did for my undergraduate (Mechanical Engineering). The University of Southampton belongs to the Russell Group of Universities and has a high QS ranking. The faculty are very friendly and knowledgeable. The University conducts career fairs so that we can meet up with companies related to our field. Overall, I had a very good experience .

Faculty

6

  • The faculty are friendly and knowledgeable. We can just drop them a message on Microsoft teams regarding a doubt, and they would respond. We can also meet them in their cabin. We also have a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) whom we can approach anytime and talk to about your grades and studies. My research project supervisor was Dr. Dmitry Bavykin, who was very friendly, and I could approach him anytime to clear my doubts.

Campus Life

8

  • The campus life is good; we meet with people from different nationalities and cultures. The University conducts many cultural and academic events throughout the year. There are many clubs of different varieties in the University. The University also has a Student Union.
  • The University has a big library (Hartley Library) where you can study. It also has a number of PCs that you can use. There is also a Sports Hall (Jubilee Sports Hall) that has a badminton court, swimming pool, etc. There are many sports clubs also.

Part Time Jobs

  • The typical salary per hour is 12 pounds. There are many job portals like Indeed that you can use to apply for part-time jobs. Also, you can just walk into a shop and ask for jobs. For students, the maximum hours of work per week are 20 hours in term time.
  • The campus also offers part-time jobs like Student Ambassadors. If you have the ability and good communication skills, you would get it. Research Assistant jobs can be secured by asking your faculty, and if they require they would offer you a role in their field of study.

Placement

10

  • It depends on the course you are doing and the level of experience you have before you undergo your master's. For example, I have seen students in the Finance /Business field, securing jobs more frequently than students in Engineering field. I , myself, am now looking for a job after finishing my master's. I graduated in December 2024. I am getting interviews, but most of the companies prefer more experienced candidates. Most of them are not willing to offer sponsorship.
  • For a fresher like me with no experience, I would say 20,000 - 30,000 GBP per year. For experienced candidates, more than 30,000 GBP per year.
  • The University conducts a career fair, which you can attend even after graduation. You can connect with companies in your field. I use online job portals like Gradcracker, CV Library , Linkedin etc. The University has a career site which I use to apply. You can keep your Linkedin active, and connect and message the recruiters.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I stayed in a University student accommodation on Wessex lane. I stayed in a shared accommodation with a common kitchen and bathroom. I shared with 6 other students. My room was fully furnished, with a bed, study table, cupboard and almirah. Also, we had a laundry that was free to all students, and yearly bus passes were issued to students with University accommodation. I applied for this accommodation from the University website. The monthly rent for this accommodation is around 512 GBP per month.

Exams

  • We require an IELTS score above 6.5 overall, with scores in all sections being more than or equal to 6.
  • Overall grade in our undergraduate should be above 60%.
  • My score: IELTS: 7.5 , Undergraduate CGPA: 8.73 (82.94%)

Fees

  • 27404 GBP for one year without an accommodation fee.
