Course Curriculum

8

  • The academics are pretty tough as compared to Indian academics, it was a blend of theoretical and practical experience, as almost every subject had a lab session and practical exams, the labs give you a chance to put your theoretical knowledge to test.
  • The usual day has around 2-4 classes and the day is pretty spread out
  • The syllabus has a lot of positives and they are great for increasing your knowledge.
  • I had a batch of 30 and has 4 indians in the batch

Admission Experience

  • I applied to 3 colleges, University of Manchester and got accepted, also Queen Mary University of London and got accepted, lastly I applied to imperial College of London and did not get accepted, the reason I got rejected by this college according to me is that the bar for this college is too high and it needed the student to have a diverse experience along with cultural and academic capabilities

  • I chose University of Manchester as it offered the course which I wanted to pursue, also it ranked very high in the QS rankings and it was a great choice for me as I knew some students from this university which helped me settle quickly, the steps involved were broadly the application process, then the acceptance, then the CAS certificate is issued after which you can apply for the visa. The IELTS exam is compulsory and I scored 8 bands in that, the admission process is long and tedious.

  • I applied in the winter intake and this decision was simple as there are more options for courses in the winter intake, and as this is the regular intake it is easier to get accepted as compared to the summer intake, the admission process takes a few months at least from applying to the universities then the acceptance comes, after that CAS comes from the University, then using this you apply for visa and get the visa appointment, once your visa is finalized you get tickets done and voila you're done

Faculty

8

  • I had a batch of thirty so the ratio of teacher to student was one is to thirty, the classes had fairly open interaction with the professor and was great for solving any doubts and problems.
  • The teaching methodology is mixed with traditional theories and new industrial based knowledge.
  • Sadly the faculties don't help in finding the jobs or to be more accurate I didn't find that to be true in my case.
  • I loved Robert Proffessor as he had a solid grasp on concepts and was great to be around as you always looked up to him and learned a lot from him.

Campus Life

10

  • University of Manchester has one big campus and it is divided into North campus and South campus, the north campus is mainly for engineering courses and the South campus is a diverse mixture of all the courses.
  • The campus had all the facilities you may need, along with lush green lawns for sitting, it has a huge library for your books, has a swimming pool and other sports activities too

Part Time Jobs

  • The teaching assistant and research assistant jobs are mainly secured by PhD students and the payment range is not known to me right now, other on campus jobs can be secured by the University students and they are displayed in various corridors and also the websites, it is difficult to secure a campus part time as the spots are limited, and they pay comparatively more.
  • Indians work typically off campus as the jobs are easy to find, and they pay the minimum wage which is around 10-12 pounds an hour, the process for finding a job is a difficult one as we have to make sure that we get a spot on the interview and after that also the spots are limited and the previous experience counts they select the people based on various aspects.

Placement

2

  • It is extremely difficult to find a job in the UK right now, and only five to ten percent of people manage to secure employment in the first six months of graduation, the usual process of finding a job is through social platforms only as there is no placement cell.T
  • They are not helping the students to secure jobs after graduation, most of the students of my batch didn't manage to find a job.

Accommodation

Off Campus
4

  • I opted for a private accommodation as I wanted a spacious room, my rent was 750 pounds per month which is standard in Manchester, it is more expensive if you have to live in London, I booked the room through an app and didn't need any channels for it, there are a lot of challenges which you will face when you're moving to UK the first and obvious one is that the weather is too cold and you'll need time to get used to it.
  • My room was close to university it was a 15-20 minutes walk.

Exams

  • The exam required is IELTS, the list of documents is provided by the respective university but broadly you will need the statement of purpose which needs to be fairly detailed and specific to you as this is a major contributing factor for your acceptance or rejection.
  • You will need at least three letters of recommendation from credible sources, and your CV is a must, along with that passport and some other documents are required as per the university of your choice, interview was not a part of my selection process, if you have a great statement of purpose and good academic record you may get selected without an interview.

Fees

  • 25000 pounds tution fees this is paid for an year, as my course was for an year, the university accommodation is expensive and the fees is paid per week, the bills in UK are expensive as compared to India and the transportation cost is expensive around 2 pounds for a bus trip,
  • You can get a student bus pass which is a money saver, groceries are expensive and cooking yourself is the smart choice

Scholarship

  • I didn't apply for any scholarships but there are a few scholarships which you can apply for.
  • The government also has scholarship programs which you can apply for and they help out the students, some also take care of all the expenses along with tution and other expenses such as rent and transport so I would suggest that students check out the scholarships.
