La Trobe University offers many scholarships to international students who want to pursue higher education in Australia. One such scholarship is the La Trobe College Excellence Scholarship-South Asia awarded to international students who have an excellent academic background. 

International students who are the citizen of any country India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Nepal, Bangladesh or Mauritius can apply for the scholarship.  

The scholarship is available to students who wish to study UG and PG programs at La Trobe University. The Scholarship covers the tuition fees for high achieving international students admitted in the UG and PG  program. 

It reduces the annual course fees by 50% depending upon WAM of the students. WAM is the average mark obtained across all completed units in a course, including any failed and repeated units. The WAM is out of 100.

The following table shows WAM  and the percentage of scholarship students receive on tuition fees.

The amount of scholarship will be given according to the WAM of students. This scholarship is available for both full-time and part-time study.

This scholarship is not available to students who are currently enrolled at La Trobe University. La Trobe College Excellence Scholarship is limited and may not be available to every eligible student.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the La Trobe College Excellence Scholarships, the applicant should fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a citizen and resident of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Nepal, Bangladesh or Mauritius
  • Be applying for one of the La Trobe International Scholarship (LTIS) list of eligible courses.
  • Be 18 years old or older at the commencement of the course; or must live with a student guardian approved by the Department of Home Affairs until they turn 18 years of age.
  • Have an overall WAM* achievement of 80% or above.
  • Commence their studies at any of the La Trobe University Victorian Campuses in 2024.
  • Meet the University's English language requirements and all other conditions stated on the Offer Letter.
  • They should meet the English Language requirement.

Application Process

  1. Applicants must submit a complete application for the course commencing in Semester 2 (July) or Summer 1 / Term 6 (November) intake of 2024 at La Trobe University - Victorian campuses.
  2. Applicants must also provide the following documents before the application closing date:
    • A detailed resume
    • A personal statement of no more than 300 words or a 3-4 minute video to detail "Why you should be awarded with the La Trobe University Excellence Scholarship".


Applicants who have already applied for Semester 2 or Summer 1/Term 6 of 2024 will be considered for the scholarship if they meet the eligibility criteria. They must send their resume and personal statement by the specified date.

Recipient obligations

  • Maintain a full-time enrolment at one of the La Trobe University campuses in Australia and satisfactory academic progress during their studies.
  • The scholarship award recipients must be willing to be an international student ambassador for La Trobe International during their study period.
  • Please also refer to the terms and conditions included in the Offer Letter.

Selection Process

Students need not apply separately. If they meet the admission requirement, the scholarship team will consider them for the same. The students are selected based on their Academic performance, extra-curricular activities, and any other outstanding achievements.

The selected students will receive a scholarship award letter through email. They will have to meet all the conditions mentioned in the offer letter and accept it as soon a possible to secure the La Trobe College Excellence Scholarship.


Grant Details

La Trobe College Excellence Scholarship provides an opportunity for international students to study at La Trobe University with a reduction in their tuition fees. 50% reduction in course fees and it depends on their weighted average marks (WAM).
