Maastricht University Holland High Potential Scholarship is offered to talented students from outside the European Union / EEA who wish to pursue higher education at the University of Maastricht (UM).

The scholarship is applicable to studying a master’s program offered by Maastricht University

  • The scholarship is awarded to a maximum of 24 students.
  • The scholarship is inclusive of a fee waiver and monthly stipend, the full scholarships are worth 30,000 EUR each.
  • The total duration of the scholarship is 13 months and 25 months for one-year and two-year master’s programs respectively.

Applicants must submit a separate application form along with required documents to be considered for Maastricht University. The forms must be sent before February 01 to be eligible for the same.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have secured admission at Maastricht University before they apply for the scholarship.

Apart from that, applicants must fulfill the eligibility requirements listed below:

  • Nationality: Must be must not be a national of the EU/ EEA, Switzerland or Surinam
    • He/ she must have a residence permit for the Netherlands
    • Candidates holding double nationality from an EU/EEA country will not be eligible
  • Age Criteria: Must not be over 35 years of age as on 1 September 2024
  • Must apply to a full-time Master’s program at Maastricht University
  • Must be applying for the first time in a degree-seeking higher education program in the Netherlands.
  • The latest academic grade must prove excellent academic results in prior education programs.

Application Process

Applicants must first apply to one of the eligible master’s programs at UM. Successful completion of the admission application will provide students with a Student ID number.

Applicants can then apply online for an application form. It must be completed in every aspect along with the required documents.

Proof Of Academic Excellence

A letter approved by your Registrar confirming that you are one of the top 20 students, academically along with the registrar’s contact details for verification; Academic Transcripts 

Letter Of Motivation Demonstrate the purpose behind applying for such a scholarship, within the 1A4 page.
Contact Details Of One Referee Inclusive of your relationship with the referee, his/her work telephone number and work email address, the details provided must be genuine for the purpose of verification.

Note: Referee should not a relative of the applicant.


Selection Process

For the selection of Maastricht University Holland High Potential Scholarship, the following steps will take place:

  1. After thorough verification of the application, the UM panel sends the application to their respective UM faculty;
  2. The faculty selects and ranks their top 5% of the applicants and sends these to the desk for a final round of verification;
  3. Recipients will be notified of by the UM international service desk. The waitlisted applications will then be finally confirmed or rejected tentatively by the month of May.

Upon receiving their confirmation letters, students will then be given further details about the scholarship and its provisions, Pre- academic training program and arrival in Maastricht for the following session.

Recipients must revert back with an acceptance letter of the scholarship to the UM.


Grant Details

Maastricht University Holland High Potential Scholarship is presented to international students who wish to study in the Netherlands at Maastricht University.

The scholarship is available for students enrolled in masters program offed by UM. The scholarship is provided for :

  • 13 months for a one-year Master's program
  • 25 months for a two-year Master's program
