Secrets of IISERs

Dislikes

  • Campus is still under construction though most the the things are done.
  • Mess management is bad and doesn't seem to improve at all.

Course Curriculum Overview :

In this course students have to learn all the subjects for first two years. Hence they are open to all type of opportunities in future. Apart from pure sciences there are courses like computer data science and earth sciences. However the course is not industry oriented rather it is more research oriented.

Internships Opportunities :

Students can apply for internships in various institutions like IITs , IISc , NITs , IISERs , NISER, etc. The internships are not by industries. Students work under professor in his field of research work and learn new things.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Semester fee - 54000 (for GENERAL) 17000 (for SC/ST) Total semesters - 10 Scholarship- INSPIRE (5000 monthly + 20000 for internships) Criteria - need to clear 12th boards cutoff marks

Campus Life :

Annual fest - KYRAT held in March Science fest - INVENIO in september Annual sports - LAKSHYA in February Books can be availed both offline and online through library. There are inter iisers cultural and sports meet in december. There are many student clubs of sports, cultural and sciences.

Hostel Facilities :

Single rooms are provided second year onwards. There is a table, chair, bed, light, fan, cupboard and a bed light. There is net in window. The furnitures are of good quality. There are 9 washrooms and 9 bathrooms in each floor. There are also 4 elevators. Mess food is not great. Bad in taste and quality.

Admission :

I did not apply for any other college. I was interested in research and thus I opted for iiser as it is one of the best research institute in the country. I chose IISER Berhampur as it is near to my home. Entrance exam for iisers - IAT Eligibility - 12th pass + first year dropper Cutoff rank for general - 4000

Faculty :

Faculties are very much approachable and there are also teaching assistants to help students in academics. Most of the faculties are renouned scientists with great achievements. There 2 exams per semester. It is easy to pass if one attends the lectures and spend a bit time in self study.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is good but at the moment I feel like it should be revised. The order in which courses are being offered should be changed and more electives should be added for more choice. Pre major system should also be included, if possible.

Placement Experience:

Placements are offered but majority of students opt for higher studies hence not much is focused on campus placements. Personally my plan is to go for a PhD abroad after completing the degree and most students here come with the mindset to pursue research.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this college without planning as I couldn't get a desired seat in IIT. But I think it was for good. The course is a wonderful primer on the path of becoming a scientist. Compared to other colleges, IISER Berhampur has a quite good faculty: student ratio. But most of them are pretty good as people and as teachers. We manage to conduct all classes without fail. But I'd like to see an increase in the number so that the research area can be broadened. The faculty here have all completed their Ph.D. and postdoc and all have some good prior experience in research and teaching. I like most of the instructors that have taught me except for a few one or two. The exam schedule is given right with the calendar release of each semester before the semester starts. Sometimes there might be changes in the schedule but we are informed around 2-3 weeks earlier in that case. Exams are not hard to pass if you attend classes and study sincerely. Questions are not asked beyond the concepts being taught.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I did opt for this course because I was very eager about research studies. IISER is a college that allows vast opportunities for research in physics, chemistry, biology, maths, earth, and environmental sciences, engineering physics, engineering biology, and engineering chemistry. So, if anyone wishes to be absorbed in the research field, IISER is the best college for him/her. Faculty: student ratio is almost 1:70 which is perfect for an ideal education system. All the faculties are highly educated and have done Ph.D. and Post Doc. from distinguished institutions. The teaching method is mainly through slides. The teacher explains the concepts on the blackboard and also provides ready-made slides describing everything that has been taught in the class that day. There is a total of 2 semesters in one year. Each semester has 2 exams- mid-semester and end semester. So, in total there are 4 exams in a year. It is not at all difficult to pass but one has to study sincerely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

According to me, this is a very helpful course if you want to go into research fields. The students who love to explore the subjects and like to study basic science will definitely get the importance of this course. In my college, the faculties are very helpful and generous. They always try to show you different paths of exploring the subjects and the philosophy behind them. This helps students a lot to think differently.

Placement Experience:

At 4th year students are eligible for placements. Before that, you can also work in your own company from your invention. Generally, students do not choose placements here. They like to run their own company with their own inventions. You will get millions and millions of money by using the knowledge gained here in this college.I would like to make my own inventions and help it for the public.
