The best college for commerce in South Mumbai

Remarks :

It is a government college so the staff can be a little lethargic. But there are a few good people too. You have to find them of course, but they are there. The office is like any other government office, but they are efficient, know their work and the work gets done. Thankfully, you only ever have to queue up once or twice a year for fees and the like, but otherwise the college functions like clock work. I had no trouble with anybody whatsoever. In face, I have eaten with one of the staff members in his home alongside (just behind the college.) Just goes to show, if you are friendly enough, they can be friendly too.

Entrance Preview :

I joined Sydenham after passing out the 12th standard. I scored 77 percent in my HSC and I wanted to attend a city college to hobnob with South Mumbai's best students. The college gets mostly alumni from business houses, and that bodes well for the future because you already have a network of friends and acquaintances that you can tap into later in life.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The courses are based on the prescribed syllabus by the University and they don't really digress from it as is the case with any University. It is a reputed college and most courses are designed well enough keeping in mind industry trends. Courses are for MMS, post graduate diploma in Business Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management, and doctor of Philosophy.

Internships Opportunities :

No. college does not provide internship. but there are campus placement opportunities. But this depends on the year and industry need.

Placement Experience :

There is placement assistance for the management programmes. Yes. But , like all cases, you must get lucky with this. If you score well enough, you could get a good break, but there are no guarantees that this will happen. just like anywhere else actually.

College Events :

Sydenham has a number of student societies for just about every thing from economics, management and finance to drama, the fine arts, sports and debating. An example of such an event is Munijan. The objective of this initiative is to bring about positive changes in society by involving students in a series of constructive and socially responsible activities. MUNIJAN rests on the belief that effective transformation in society can be achieved through collective efforts to inspire, support and serve consciously. Another event FISCUS is an annual finance summit intended to enlighten the students about various topics impacting the economy through the discussion amongst eminent personalities. The event is a panel discussion having a different theme every year.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

It's a government college and the fees are standard. Not too expensive. or MMS and 60 PGDBM (Flagship courses) • Fee structure: 69000 per annum. SIMSREE Mumbai MBA Fee Structure 2016:- Tuition Fee annually Rs. 67,000/- Library Fees (Refundable) Rs. 2000/-

Campus Life :

the crowd is mostly from south mumbai, affluent. can be snobbish because most kids are from industrialist, well to do business houses. Someone from the suburbs can feel out of place but it all depends on your personality. There is little to no ragging and it's not like they are out to get you. • Gender breakup: 30% Female + 70% Male in the management programmes but otherwise nearly fifty fifty. Sydenham is one of the best colleges you can go to for extracurriculars.

Hostel Facilities :

Like anywhere else there are good days and bad days. Sydenham has a hostel very close to the college building on C road. (Sydenham is on B road outside churchgate station). It is fairly clean but the building is quite old now. The food is okay for the most part. no great shakes. just passable.

Alumni/Alumna :

Yes. most of them are. The seniors will mentor you if you approach them. Very friendly. again, it all depends on who you go to, your personality is as important as who you ask and how you approach them for help. But, that said, most of them are helpful.

Exam Structure :

This again is university driven and will depend upon the program. Mostly written at the end of every term but depending on the programme there can be a viva voce too. Typically, you have one test a day and sometimes with holidays in between, to prepare. so not too bad.

Admission :

You can get the detailed prospectus from the college office during working hours or download the PDF that explains the admission procedure on their website. Sydenham is a government college. It's fairly straight forward. Most often, if you meet the eligibility criteria, all you need to do is show up on the said date, queue up outside their office with the duly filled in form, pay the fees and you are done.

Faculty :

Faculty is mostly appointed by the government at least for the Bachelor courses. So, I am afraid, not very good. The lectures can be very boring. The faculty for the management programme however are a good professional lot and bring a lot more to the table.

The particular knowledge should be concentrated and applied more in the course instead of theoretical knowledge Every semester there's an exam conducted for final results to review and testify what the students have understood and acknowledged from the particular course.

Admission:

I chose this college mainly due to proximity to my house which was then in thane. And also because the college had a fairly good reputation.Since I had got very good marks in 10th standard admission process was a breeze. Chose this course because I was very commercially inclined.
