Remarks :
It is a good place to be in. You will definitely not regret. A college experience you'd be glad for, people you'll be friends with for longer than you would have thought, a routine you'd look up to everyday while you're still here.
Entrance Preview :
Got into K. J. Somaiya by appearing for MHT CET which got scrapped out a year later, getting replaced by JEE Mains. Opted for EXTC because I wasn't much aware about programming back then. And no regrets so far! Made through the admissions under the minority (gujarati) rounds so that part was quite sorted.
Course Curriculum Overview :
KJSCE now functions as an autonomous institute. So the students are through with their exams much prior to the most of the other colleges in Mumbai. Long and relaxed vacations is what that means. The syllabus isn't rigid to Mumbai University's prescription. Students are more definite about how to go about while studying because they majorly have to concentrate on whatever taught within the classroom. This cuts down on a lot of tedious self study.
Internships Opportunities :
Dozens of internship opportunities are sent out via the college domain, accessible to all Somaiya students. The stipends vary under various criteria.
Placement Experience :
Approximately 100 companies visit the campus each year. All the placement details, names of the various companies, branch wise statistics, offered packages are mentioned on the college website.
College Events :
There are 2 major festivals, Abhiyantriki and Symphony. Abhiyantriki is the technical fest. Symphony is cultural. Apart from these, there are other council festivals too.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fees are quite what they should be. 1 lakh a year isn't a lot for all the facilities provided. Though the college loses out a little on the infrastructure, the huge campus compensating for it on the other hand.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Students not coming from a family whose income is enough to furnish the tuition fees receive a particular amount of loan. Besides, this the meritorious ones, year and branch toppers receive scholarships too.
Campus Life :
The college campus being huge, we have all possible sports ammenities you can think of. TT room, carrom room, basketball court, badminton court, cricket field, football field, tennis court, etc.
Hostel Facilities :
I'm not a hostelite. But from what I've heard from friends is that they love their life there. The food at the engineering mess is a 5/10. But they can opt for the management mess instead, which suffices the need for good food.
Alumni/Alumna :
We have alumni programs conducted each year. It is like a mentorship program, when the alumni act as the mentor to the students assigned for that academic year.
Exam Structure :
Exams are almost back to back with a gap of a day or two between subsequent papers. Becomes a little tiring, but then again, they last for just about 10-14 days.
Faculty :
The faculty is really good with their individual subjects and extremely cooperative. Their manner of teaching may or may not favor all the students but you'd be able to pick most of it if you're paying attention.
