Quite unnoticed, yet ahead of time

Remarks :

The best remark I could make here is that the college gives you the freedom to work and push your ideas. The facilities like Cisco Thingqbator, Kerala Startup Mission and Fablab can take you to another level. The bad remark is that the institute's own premises are less and offer no hostels. But from 2020 onward the entire IIITMK is moving to the new international campus (in Technocity, 7km away from current location) having hostel facilities for all.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is set for the needs for the 21st-century fourth industrial revolution, which makes it far better than many other universities. You can't expect professors spoon-feeding for you. Most of the times you will require to do practicals in labs as assignments or projects. Of course, there are certain theoretical subjects to make your life harder too.

Placement Experience :

Placement of the college was an issue for the past two-three years. Last year (2019) we have revamped the student's placement cell (I was part of it) and made one of the best placement seasons in 2020. This time some big short companies like Tata Elxsi, Federal Bank came and hired students. Placement season is normally during Oct/Nov.

College Events :

ASCIIIT (Arts and Sports Club of IIITMK) is the arts club of IIITMK. They organize programmes like Onam celebration ('Aaravam 2019'), Diwali, Holi and cultural fest. The college allows a certain amount of money for these. To make events colourful you need to have a good team to lead the ASCIIIT. So select your class representatives accordingly.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

If you compare other colleges (other IIITs, IITs and IIMs) with similar courses the course fee are very low. The 2018-2020 fee was 2lacs. This is the only a course fee and food and accommodation not included. The college has all modes of payments - even they accept Google Pay I guess.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I opted for an education loan from SBI. It came around 4 lac in total including food and accommodation. The Bank needed your admission certificate, hostel/food expense receipts or so for availing the same.

Campus Life :

Currently the campus in inside lush green Technopark- the first IT park in India. You can find many cafeterias and cuisines to experiment within and outside the Technopark. But last year some food infection happened to tens of employees and pupils and the authorities took strict action. You can enjoy all mega gala events in Technopark whether it may be sports, arts or technology. For example last year Richard Stallman came and gave a lecture. We also went for football tournaments, valentines' day mega night event etc.

Alumni/Alumna :

Our seniors were very helpful to us. They in person talked with us what to do and what not to do. It helped us in writing exams, giving interviews and making new friends in the industry. Also, you will know more once you are into it.

Admission :

I was working in a start-up, which was run by my friends and myself, which offered an e-learning platform for competitive examinations. It was the first of its kind in Kerala too. Not so long after its establishment, I understood that we need data in bulk amount for better business. This leads me to search for online learning in popular websites like Udacity.

Faculty :

The course coordinator (equivalent to the HOD) is the head of a department and is a permanent staff with a postdoc from a very good foreign university. He himself published many works in chemistry, analytics etc and is extremely up to date. Almost all other Coordinators and many leading lecturers are approachable and skilled. But as I said you need to make use of them. You work hard and they will help you better.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose MSc mathematics at Farook College is because of the systematic curriculum they are to be provided. It is quite useful for getting a high-quality of education. They prepared real-world applications. I suggest the curriculum should be prepared according to the preferences of students. The exams ae semester-wise.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am very interested in a teaching career especially teaching mathematics, so a teacher should understand the subject matter in depth, I chose to select MSc maths after completing my bachelor's degree. We have numerical analysis, cryptography, computer programming, and boolean algebra as papers of applied mathematics, we can find its applications in computer coding, data analysis, engineering, etc. We can be a data analyst after completing MSc maths, after studing a six-month data analysis course. The curriculum should be improved by giving a space for data analysis papers in one of the semesters. The frequency and timing of exams are well scheduled, the course is not surely an easy one but can be cracked by little effort.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Our batch was in Covid lag batch. So the course curriculum was highly rushed. We weren't able to cover aspects which would have real world applications. The last semester research project was fine but still more hands on experience and more research oriented approach could've been taken .

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am a graduate in biotechnology so for me genomic science was ideal as I was interested in it. There could be more experiments in the practical sessions and more placement opportunities. As of now there are no placements. Also the department could bring in some international and national conferences too.

The placement opportunities are very high. We get a minimum package of 6.5 lakhs per annum and more. The top end companies like EY , Deloitte, Tcs , federal bank, IBM, Tetrapark etc.. are available for us.

Placement Experience:

There are departments with placements and university has got a placement cell. There are also various career guidance classes, Innovation and entrepreneurship development centre(IEDC) to support students. But my course is more of a research oriented and as such I can apply for phd opportunities myself. The faculties will help in getting internships, recommendations and journal publications as long as long as we are interested.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Talking about the course, as it is a pg course the main thing is the effort we put in this subject. The teachers has a limit and it is always the effort we put from our side to complete the course. Frankly speaking, the course is a tough one. Syllabus is so long that many things are there to study.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for the placement in their final year of the course. We have BS-MS, MSc, IPhD and PhD currently. Students from BS-MS are more likely to be placed. Though placement is less as students mostly go for research after masters. We have a placement cell that notifies about the opportunities in industries and academia. As my plans are to pursue a PhD after getting this degree so I never got interested in placement opportunity.
