Overall Evaluation of Activities at RGNUL, Punjab

PR

Remarks :

The administration of our college is not that efficient, as it should be. This is the most negative fact about our college. Administration is supportive at some points, while on some points it is not.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum includes all the important law subjects and B.A. subjects, but it is not well structured. Describing exam structure, we have two semesters in a year. Moreover, each semester consists of one mid-semester exams, projects and vivas for all the subjects, and lastly the end-semester exams.

Placement Experience :

Placement and job opportunities are average. One can opt for judiciary, litigation, or corporate job after graduation from this college. Also, we have an active placement cell, through which we get internships under different lawyers, judges, and in corporate law firms.

College Events :

There are various events celebrated in the college. Our college organises two fests in a year, one is cultural and the other one is of sports. Colleges from various parts of the country are invited. Moreover, there are different parties being organised on various occasions.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fee structure may be feasible for some students, while other may find it expensive. Fee is around 2.25 lakhs per annum, which includes everything, i.e., hostel fee, tuition fee, mess fee, etc. But people may question the feasibility in terms of marginal utility being derived by them in the college.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Our college gives scholarship to the students who perform well in academics. The people who get good grades may opt for the scholarship. Top 2-3 rankers from every batch get scholarship from the college.

Campus Life :

Extracurricular activities are decent in the college. We organise different sports leagues in the college. We have a separate cultural committee as well, which focuses on cultural events. We have separate moot court committee, which organises moot court competitions. Similarly, we have debating society and different editorial boards, which organise different competitions in the college.

Alumni/Alumna :

Alumni network of the college is not as efficient as that of other colleges. However, some of the alumnis are doing very good and are helpful too. Senior students are really very helpful in the college. Rather, I should say that it is impossible to survive without seniors in the college.

Admission :

For getting admission into this college, one needs to give Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The admission is given on merit-cum-preference basis. CLAT takes place every year in May. Also, for giving CLAT, one needs to first register for it.

Faculty :

The faculties are experienced and learned in our college. However, the teaching methods they adopt are not appropriate. However, some of the faculties are not competent to teach even, and some of the faculties are excellent at par.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course as it's very self awarening course about the rights of an individual and national. But the college curriculum is ok not so satisfying. Suggestions for improvement will be that the college should maintain a proper schedule system of the events per year. Exams difficultly level is not very high...it's ok... I would rate faculty members 6 out of 10

Course Curriculum Overview:

The answer depends on the management and leadership style of the university. If the university is research based and managed and led in a collegiate style, then lecturers will be invited to teach particular courses based on their experience and knowledge. The teaching load will be fairly evenly spread, depending on a lecturer’s and professor’s position and other responsibilities (e.g. course directorships). Senior lecturers and above may well decline to teach a module but will have to ensure their teaching load is at the required level - so they cannot simply opt not to teach unless they are bringing income in from other sources (e.g. research activities). If the university is heavily orientated to student numbers and research/publication is a fringe activity pursued by a minority of staff, then the situation will be very different. In such organisations the teaching load is much heavier and consequently so are the demands placed on lecturers. They will have much less leverage for de

Admission:

There is an All india entrance examination wherein out of a total of 80 seats per batch, 60 are reserved for wards of serving/retired army personnel, 16 are reserved for punjab domicile students and 4 seats are reserved for all india civil category. The test for fairly simple and there was no negative marking either. I chose it because it is a bit cheaper than the other options and the students you meet share a common background which is usually helpful.

Placement Experience:

The placement and job opportunities are at the worst place they can be. There is not a single law firm (corporate or litigation) which comes to the college for placements. There is no concept of day zero in the college. The organizations that come are primarily insurance firms which give a less than sustainable offer which has to be taken by the students because of the inherent lack of choice. The college doesn't even provide internships in law offices and discourages anyone who wants to apply and intern on their own. There is no attendance relaxation shown for students who are interning and there is no internship break given by the college, hence the students have to miss classes and intern at the risk of getting detained (yes this has happened). The college always maintains that the internships are a personal responsibility and the college doesn't care about the students internships. The college doesn't have the authority which has the expertise to run like an actual law college.

Admission:

The admission was given on the basis of online counseling which conducted by the University authorized by Government of Punjab. I just applied for the college and had to give a telephonic interview and then was sent the offer letter for the admission.

Placement Experience:

We have a placement cell in the college which informs us about various placements that come to college and help us to prepare for that. The college doesn't provide any internship as such but we can apply and get for internships off campus. However we can do internships only in college holiday periods as attendance is a big issue here.
