Is nit manipur worth joining?
My cousin’s brother is currently pursuing his B.Tech from NIT Manipur (2018-2022). Before joining, he was also going through the same dilemma, however, now he has had enough experience to share his honest opinions.
- Infrastructure: It is one of the newly established NITs, hence, the campus is still under construction and developing as the years are passing. Currently, the college has been run temporarily at Langol Campus. Thus, there is a lot more scope of improvement in this area for now.
- Faculty: There is nothing so exceptional about the faculty. Overall, you can find both excellent and average professors. To mention, Chemistry department is one of the best.
- Peers: You will not be disappointed with the crowd as most of them are talented and intellectual. A healthy competition will drive you to perform better too! The helpful and supportive seniors are the cherry on top.
- Library: You can find most books there however if you want advanced books, you need to visit the Takyel Campus.
- Sports & extracurricular: The annual sports event hosts various sports like cricket, kabaddi, kho-kho, chess, carom, etc. You can also enjoy the annual cultural fest OUGRI which is fantastic where almost the whole Imphal participates.
- Mess: Earlier it was worse, however, it got somewhat better after strikes by the students. Still, better be prepared.
- Placements: Just like every engineering institute, the CSE branch enjoys the best placements. You can grab packages up to 18 LPA by big companies like Microsoft. The second highest placements are enjoyed by Mechanical followed by core branches like ECE & EE.
All in all, being a part of NIT Manipur is a mixed bag of experiences. Despite issues like food and campus, you’ll always find your way out as you make friends with different talents from across India.
What's the highest package of NIT Manipur?
My brother is a third-year student of the CSE branch at NIT Manipur and he is preparing for the placements. Despite the fact it is newly established, his seniors’ placement record was quite good.
Here are a few insights into the placement packages at NIT Manipur.
- The average salary package offered is usually around 4-6 LPA.
- A couple of years ago the highest package was hardly about 10 LPA that too for very selective students. However, it has improved in recent years.
- Last year, three students received a package of 17 LPA in BPCL. All three students belonged to different branches namely CSE, Mechanical, and Civil. This is the highest package till now. The second highest package of 10 LPA at Microsoft was bagged by a guy from the CSE branch.
Overall, NIT Manipur has managed to get fairly good packages as compared to other newly established NITs. Although the highest package varies every year, it is never less than 12-15 LPA according to recent years’ placement records.
Which is better: NIT Meghalaya, IIIT Manipur or NIT Manipur?
NIT Meghalaya ranks 61st for BTech by NIRF 2020. 104 students were placed in the 2018-2019 placement program conducted by the institute. It is accredited by AICTE.
IIIT Manipur is an autonomous university established under MHRD. It has a faculty strength of 13 members and a student population of 107.
NIT Manipur ranks 158th for BTech by NIRF 2020. It is recognized by UGC and AICTE. It has a 300+ acres campus area. It has a faculty strength of 70 members most of them being highly qualified and PhD holders.
Admission Details -
- Applicants should have at least 75% in their 10+2 qualifying exams.
- For MTech applicants 60% in BTech or BE is required.
- NIT Meghalaya conducts a written examination and interview for postgraduate applicants.
- Qualifying for JoSAA counselling process will be based on the applicants merit.

NIT Meghalaya has considerably better records in placements, salary packages, participation of top companies, etc. It would be a better choice among these. But it completely depends on the student’s choice to choose which college to study in.
Which is better academically (preferably CSE and ECE branch), NIT Manipur. NIT Meghalaya, NIT Sikkim, NIT Nagaland or Tezpur University?
Before choosing an institute, think about what your requirements are. Here are some points that might help you make a decision.
- If your aim is a job in a corporate sector then the NITs will definitely be better options. Opt for either NIT Meghalaya or Nagaland.
- Do not compare their placements with older NITs as it could prove disappointing.
- Tezpur University (TU) is also known to provide good placement opportunities but it is more concentrated to only the CSE department.
- You may get placements from a few IT companies, but overall placements are concerned NITs are definitely better than TU.
- Students who are interested in learning and exploring research fields can opt for TU as well.
- Tezpur University has very good faculty strength in ECE & CSE.
- The two departments are much older too.
- The CSE faculty and labs of TU are better than NIT Silchar.
- TU has got a good research environment as there are multiple departments of Science and Engineering, which is not the case of the mentioned NITs.
Therefore it is suggested that if you aim for an immediate job opportunity, go for NITs. For students who feel confident that they can get a job off campus or are more inclined towards academics and research can go for TU.
How is CSE NIT Manipur?
CSE at NIT Manipur emphasises the basics of computer programming and networking. They involve aspects of computing, from the design of individual microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers to circuit designing and writing software.

NIT Silchar is the best choice in terms of placement & ROI for an engineering program among NIT Agartala, NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland, NIT Manipur, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Sikkim and NIT Arunachal Pradesh.
In 2023 companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe and offered the highest package of 80 lakh per year and average package is 14 lakh per year and the placement percentage is 90%.

Which college should be chosen among LNMIIT, JECRC and NIT Manipur?
LNMIIT ranked 194 for BTech by NIRF 2020. Students are offered scholarships of INR 35,000 per semester based on their merit i.e. the JEE Advanced rank. The top 20 rankers (upto 5000 rank) will be awarded with the scholarship.
JECRC Jaipur is ranked 23rd All over India in the Best University Survey. Students are provided with internship opportunities (100%). 81% of which was paid internship, stipend from INR 8000 to 24000 per month.

All the above mentioned colleges are equally good; it ultimately depends on the student’s preferences of location, affordability, environment and subject. LNMIIT has a better placement record than JECRC and NIT Manipur
Is a branch change to CSE possible at NIT Manipur? If yes, what is the process?
Yes, like most other IITs and NITs it is possible to change your branch at NIT Manipur. My brother joined civil engineering at the institute but changed to CSE in the 2nd year, so I can tell you the exact process.
- First, your CGPA after 1st year must be among the top two in your branch.
- You should also not have any active backlog in the first year.
- If there is a clash between the CGPA then the JEE MAIN ranks of the students are taken for the tiebreaker.
NIT Manipur offers the branch change option only to two students at the maximum.
What would be a better choice in terms of placements: SRM Kattankulathur (IT) or NIT Manipur/Mizoram/Sikkim (CS)?
I completed my BTech CSE from NIT Manipur in 2021. NITs consistently perform well in terms of placements. NITs fees are much lower compared to SRMIST and other private engineering colleges.

NIT Manipur has the best placement figures among the three NITs. As per NIRF 2023 Engineering Ranking, NIT Manipur ranks 95th, while NIT Sikkim ranks in the 151-200 bracket.
NITs are “Institutes of National Importance''. NITs are government colleges. They come next in line to IITs for their high brand value. Though SRM Chennai is a well-known college, it does not carry the same reputation as the IITs and NITs. Due to these factors, I had decided to pursue BTech CSE from NIT Manipur.

NIT Srinagar is ranked 201 for BTech and 39 for BTech by NIRF 2020 and India Today 2020 respectively, whereas NIT Manipur ranks 158th for BTech by NIRF 2020. It has a 300+ acres campus area. It has a faculty strength of 70 members most of them being highly qualified and PhD holders.
NIT Nagaland is an autonomous university recognized by AICTE and UGC. They have a total of 43 faculty members, 27 of them being PhD holders.
NIT Mizoram is an autonomous university affiliated by AICTE. They have a total intake of 190+ students in each department.
NIT Sikkim is an autonomous university approved by UGC and AICTE. NIT Sikkim offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
