Everyone’s college holds a special place in their lives and they take a part of it within them. Academics is not the only thing that your college teaches you. In fact, it helps you grow as a person and the difference can be felt in your personality when you join and when you leave. There are many things that IIT BHU taught my brother who still cherishes his memories and college days.
Empathy: College life at IIT BHU or at any college brings you close to the lowest strata of the society and you end up befriending them be it the cleaning staff or the owner of eateries. You realise that as much as you want to get successful you can never stop associating yourself with these people.
Contentment: Another major thing that college life teaches you is satisfaction and contentment with the simplest things. You can find happiness in a plate of Maggi at HG, or Chai and chole samosa at LC, bun-Makhan at Lanka, cold coffee at VT, and lassi at Pahelwans.
Substance over Style: IIT is a place where you won’t be judged on the basis of your scooter or clothes or looks. You can stay just the way you are and you will learn to glamorize simplicity,
Accept failure: Those who haven’t made it into their favorite branch or IIT already have experienced failure and thus teach you a lot in life. You learn to accept the biggest digest with the biggest smiles.
All three of the Indian Institutes of Technology you mentioned are well-respected institutions with strong programs in engineering.
All the aforementioned institutes are at similar levels and will give you the IIT tag. So the final decision depends on your priorities more than anything.
Without any doubt, IIT BHU is older and has a stronger brand value but it depends on which branch you will be getting. Ultimately, the best decision will depend on your personal preferences and goals.
IIT BHU recorded a jump in pre-placement offers (PPO) from 108 in 2018 to 152 in 2019. Some of the reputed companies like Walmart, Bajaj, Oyo offered PPOs to the students from IIT BHU. There was a 42% increase in PPO offers as compared to the previous year. In campus placements, companies like Apple, RB, and Sprinklr visited the institute for the first time for recruitment along with long time recruiters in Goldman Sachs, Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Citibank, etc. A total of 853 placement offers including PPOs were received by IIT BHU.
During Phase 1 of the placement season alone, IIT BHU observed 266 offers from 45 companies on Day 1. Reputed firms like Apple, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, CodeNation, Uber, Intel, Flipkart, Google also visited the campus. The highest offer among them made by Uber International of Rs 1.03 crore to a student.
Day 2 and 3 of the placement season observed more reputed firms like Flipkart, Oracle, Eaton, Cipla, Reliance Jio, Citi Pune, and Deloitte recruiting and offering placements to students of IIT BHU. With this, the total offers reached 477 at IIT BHU.
Day 7 and 8 of the placement season observed, even more, offers from companies like Accenture, Capgemini, Tata Motors, etc. Out of which the highest offer made is 1.51 crore by Microsoft International. Also, a total of three international placement offers were observed in total.
IIT BHU placements are good for M.Tech Electrical Engineering. Students of the branch get placed in core as well as non-core job roles. If you have good coding skills you can easily get placed in MNCs. Accenture, Cisco, Cognizant, DRDO, Future First, Wipro, TCS, Nvidia, etc. are some of the top recruiters for the branch. Around 94% of students from the branch get placed with an average CTC of INR 8-10 LPA.
Based on different factors, you can categorize the IITs into various groups. For example, academically, the top IITs are IIT Kanpur, IIT KGP, and IIT Bombay. Similarly, IIT Guwahati is known for its top-notch accommodation facilities with single rooms allotted to every student. The campus encompassed by natural beauty is second only to IIT Roorkee.
Universities like IIT BHU and IT BHU despite being old, haven’t been able to reach the level of IIT Kanpur or Kharagpur. However, it does give a slight edge to IIT Delhi in terms of academics
Honestly, every student is aware of the actual credibility of his institute and chooses it anyway.
Either the Institute aligns with his preferences or that particular IIT was the only IIT he could make it into. So IITians don’t usually fight amongst themselves unless it’s an outsider trying to trigger them.
M.Tech students (boys) of IIT BHU are allotted Aryabhatta Hostel I (Block A&B) and II (Block C&D).
It is a three story building that contains a large common room with TV, and a large dining hall. The hostel mess serves decent quality food. The hostel rooms are quite spacious, and they are two seaters. But whenever there’s a shortage of rooms, three students are allotted for each room, instead of two. But even then, there’s ample space for each occupant.
Each block has a garden. The washrooms are cleaned every afternoon, and are equipped with handwash and geysers. The two hostel canteens have all the basic items (including the basic food items), and their timings are 1:30PM-3AM and 7AM-10PM. On each floor, in each block, hot and cold purified water is available in the coolers. Each occupant is given a wooden cot, a table and a chair, and each room contains two cupboards. Decent wifi facilities are made available. The hostel celebrates every major festival with enthusiasm.
Overall, the M.Tech hostel at IIT BHU is quite decent.
The placement scenario for the Mechanical branch at IIT BHU is quite good.
Following the sheep mentality, many claim that it’s the branch that shapes your career and not your institute. Well, don’t let such people mislead you into believing your career is all set if you take CSE irrespective of the institute you belong to.
CSE branch is a major crowd-puller but trust me any branch taken up at IITs is better than other technical institutes. The branch is temporary but the tag you will be getting is permanent and will stay with you forever. Moreover, as for the placement opportunities that are better for CS, you can always opt for noncore placements and acquire coding skills.
The campus life and exposure provided by IITs is like no other so if you choose a technical institute other than IIT, you will be missing out on a good college life. Also, the culture of most IITs is driven towards coding so many IIT companies offer placements to students other than the CS branch based on your skills.
Here is a comparative analysis of the placement scenario of these institutes

IIT BHU placements depend a lot on your TPR. Your TPR should have the ability to convince the recruiters and serve you in the most selfless way. He has the power to speak to HR and make you sit for top IT companies provided that you should be talented.
My friend was in the ceramic branch and loved coding. His dream was to get placed in a good IT company. However, very few computer companies approach ceramic students for placements. But because of his exceptional skills, he got recruited to a very good MNC that was IPE only to CS students.
Ultimately it depends on your TPR and your skills as to what companies approach you with good roles.
Both IITD Mechanical as well as IIT BHU CSE are good branches.
IIT BHU is 100 Years old Institution and offers a huge Alumni Network. The course curriculum of CSE is designed in a way that will give you enough Industry exposure. Coding Culture at IIT BHU is also very impressive with 10-12 GSOC Selections every year. The Department Club of Programmers (COPS) conducts Codefest which is the annual Department Fest which witnesses the participation of students and programmers worldwide. Moreover, besides Technical things at IIT BHU you can build up other skills since there are many clubs for Extracurriculars like Aeromodelling Club, Robotics Club, Business Club, Cultural Societies, Film & Media Council, etc. Apart from this, the Life at IIT BHU campus and city life of Varanasi is amazing. The average placement package at this IIT is nearly around 8.19 Lakhs while the Highest was 1.54 Crore in 2019. All the top companies including top tech giants Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon offer jobs as well as other sectors where students get jobs are Consulting, Analytics, Education, Business, etc.
IITD is an old well-reputed IIT. Faculties of the Mechanical Department at IITD are very good and experienced. Also, Peer Group at IITD is very competitive since many top rankers join this college. Mechanical Engineering course curriculum is good and one which provides industry skills. Besides Academics IITD too has many Clubs, Societies where students can join to develop different skills. Also, Campus life of IITD and the City life that Delhi offers is quite amazing. Placements too at IITD are good. In 2019 Mechanical Engineering was the brunch with the highest placement records. Many top Mechanical Core companies visit campus such as HUL, ITC, WIPRO, CBS, HONDA, etc. There are also other job profiles available such as Data Analytics, Software, Consulting, Finance, Education, etc.
You should choose the branch depending on your Interest. Choose Mechanical only if you have keen interest otherwise choose CSE to get more opportunities.
