Should I join IIITDM Jabalpur or IIIT Guwahati for CSE?

RM
Raghav Mishra Posted On : November 4th, 2022
Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati

There are numerous factors to consider before enrolling in any institute.

In terms of curriculum, it is assumed that the CSE curriculum at IIIT Guwahati is on par with that of any other institute of national importance. Many of the seniors landed good jobs in MNCs, and despite the location taboo, they were able to find suitable placements.

Because Jabalpur is in Central India, more companies will undoubtedly visit the campus. However, you are aware that they are also in the design and management fields. In contrast, the IIT Guwahati curriculum is completely different from theirs in that regard (it includes courses such as optimization techniques which IIITDM does not possibly have). In CSE, a greater emphasis is placed on software development and machine learning. So if you want to be in the middle of nature, join IIIT Guwahati. Whoever said this might be an immature student in their field of study, perhaps a freshman or a sophomore.

It is recommended to compare the faculty research areas and qualifications in both institutes as well as the infrastructure, placement record, and curriculum. Then you'll be able to choose which type of institute you want to attend.

RV College of Engineering, Bangalore is a better option compared to IIIT Guwahati. Bangalore is home to major MNCs and startups. As a student of RV College, you can leverage the location advantage to get placements, internships, and projects.

RV College of Engineering placements is better. The median CTC for the college is INR 8.93 LPA. For 2021, the highest CTC offered was INR 53.18 LPA.

What happens in the induction program of IIIT Guwahati?

SS
Shashank Sengupta Posted On : May 4th, 2021
IIIT Guwahati

The first thing that you should know is that the introduction program at IIIT Guwahati lasts for a duration of a good three weeks. During this whole time, you would come across experiences that I am about to mention below.

  • Various group activities would take place that would enable you to interact with your fellow peers at the college.
  • Vital organizations of the college are popular for propagating valuable life lessons. Some of these you would get to know about are Mind India, The Art of Living, Your Dost, etc.
  • A session would be arranged for the freshers to interact with the Director of IIIT Guwahati- Dr. Gautam Barua Sir.
  • A proper formal introduction session would be held so that you get to interact with professors from various departments just so they understand your interests and vice versa.
  • You would get to be a part of a memorable field trip to Guwahati City's Kamakhya Temple.
  • You would also come across sessions that would encourage and teach you how to be a part of the extracurriculars and various clubs of the college.

All in all, to sum up, your introduction session at IIIT Guwahati, you must understand that it is a vital session that eventually helps you understand the professors and your own batchmates better. It's a 21-day session and you are not required to complete any projects or even study during this time. This is entirely set up for your enjoyment. In this process, you would make new friends. By the end of the introduction session, you would be used to the food at the mess and the weather over there.

Which is better: IIIT Guwahati or Thapar University?

SS
Sneha Sharma Posted On : May 31st, 2021
B.tech, COE from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

I have a few friends at both institutes so I can give you some idea about them. Both IIIT Guwahati and Thapar University are very good engineering institutes, but the former will be a better choice.

Thapar University is a reputed private institute with good infrastructure, an updated curriculum, and a well-developed alumni base. But when compared to IIIT Guwahati it falls behind.

If we check the recent placement statistics for these two institutes, there a big difference can be seen. The average CTC offered at Thapar for recent years has been around 7 LPA, whereas for IIIT Guwahati the average CTC is around 10.2 LPA.

The final decision is yours. Consider all these facts and choose wisely.

What should I choose between Thapar and IIIT, Guwahati (2018) for ECE?

NJ
Nikhil Jha Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
Studied B.Tech in Information Technology at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore (2019)

I have friends from both Thapar University and IIIT Guwahati, and undoubtedly, Thapar holds the legacy of being the best private engineering college after BITS Pilani.

Check out the following reasons why Thapar University beats IIIT Guwahati here:

  • Campus culture: The coding culture is very profound at Thapar whereas in IIIT Guwahati it's almost non-existent and is more focused on research.
  • Placement: The records are far better at Thapar and have a greater number of companies visiting for campus placements. On the other hand, NO ECE company showed up during the campus placements last year at IIIT Guwahati.
  • Curriculum: The biggest con of IIIT Guwahati is the curriculum. The curriculum makes no sense because subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are scattered over all 8 semesters instead of the first year itself. Practical subjects like Machine Learning and the Internet of Things are presented theoretically without any lab sessions which is absurd.
  • Alumni network: Thapar University has a much greater alumni base across India and abroad due to its long history. Whereas, IIIT Guwahati being established less than a decade ago has a limited alumni base.

IIIT Guwahati lies nowhere in the league of Thapar University. Join IIIT Guwahati only if you are more inclined towards research work and higher studies, especially branches like ECE. If better infrastructure, better placements, huge alumni network, is what you are looking for, choose Thapar University any day!

In your opinion, which is the best, among IIIT Sri City, Guwahati, Kota, Lucknow and Trichy?

AG
Anurag Gupta Posted On : June 14th, 2021
B.Tech from IIEST Shibpur (2019)

If you are considering IIIT Kolkata, IIIT Sri City and IIIT Trichy are all colleges that have done very well and are also developing quite well. Compared to these, IIIT Guwahati and Lucknow are not quite up to the mark yet.

As for IIIT Sri City, I have a friend studying there and according to him, this college is one of the first among the others to have its own campus.

  • It was completed about a year or two ago so if you are looking for admission, definitely go to IIIT Sri City.
  • The very first batch from this college had an average package offer of INR 7.5 LPA and is quite good as compared to mid-level NITs.
  • The mentorships provided by IIITH also helps a lot and the curriculum here is amazing.
  • If you are looking for research, almost every student ends up publishing a research paper in B.Tech. Students are even better to go on to publish around 6 to 7 international papers as well.

What is a better option, IIIT Guwahati or northeastern NITs?

AG
Aikantika Ghosh Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad (2022)

There are many NITs in north-eastern India. All have a different ranking in comparison to IIIT Guwahati. Below are some comparison points which will give you a clear idea.

  • NITs having superiority over IIIT Guwahati are NIT Silchar, Manipur, Agartala, Mizoram.
  • For all other NITs, the comparison depends upon the branch towards which you're inclined.
  • For the CSE branch, NIT Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are better than IIIT Guwahati.
  • Circuit branches in NIT are a preferable choice over circuit branches in IIIT.
  • CSE in IIIT Guwahati is better than the circuit branches (ECE, EEE, CSE, IT) in NITs.
  • Out of all the mentioned NITs and IIIT Guwahati, NIT Silchar has the highest NIRF Ranking of 46th for Engineering in 2020.

In conclusion, for NITs with an edge over IIIT Guwahati, the branch does not play a significant role in the selection process. Any branch in those NITs is superior to IIIT Guwahati. But for other NITs, branch plays an important role in choosing your institute.

As the hostel rooms at IIIT Guwahati are built for 1 person a room but from this year, it is going to be 2 per room, is it not congested and is anything going to change for the hostel?

SR
Soham Roy Posted On : July 5th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (2019)

Yes, as the rooms were designed and built for a single person per room, thus adjusting two people will make it a little congested. But it would not be a problem as the students will be provided with double-decker beds.

There will be proper space for two tables and chairs. The rooms in the hostel have proper ventilation.

If the student wants to sleep on the floor, they can remove the double-decker beds from their room. They will be provided with two cupboards in one room, each for a student. The students can put all their belongings there.

In comparison with some other institutions such as IIT BHU, where three of the beds are arranged in U-shaped with a table in the center of the room, the condition of IIIT Guwahati is much better.

Even after knowing all these facts, if there is any doubt about the room then you should visit the campus or talk with the current students over there and try to know about any ongoing issue about the same.

Are there Telugu students in IIIT Guwahati?

AS
Ayushi Srivastav Posted On : June 16th, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (2020)

Yes, IIIT Guwahati has a huge diversity. You can find students from South India including Telugu students in every department.

  • My cousin belonged to B.Tech batch 2019, in which a total of 25 Telugu-speaking people were there, making approximately 1/8th of the whole batch.
  • You will find many South Indian students regardless of which state they belong to. Even in the hostel mess, you can enjoy many south Indian delicacies for lunch and dinner.
  • My cousin always found them to be supportive and humble at sports or academics. That’s why he had many South Indian friends.

Overall, you will find a fair share of students from the Southern part of India and it is best to interact and make friends with them. It’s nice to have friends from different cultural backgrounds especially when they belong to your own batch.
