When will the permanent campus of IIT Mandi be ready?
IIT Mandi campus is located in Kamand village, 14 km away from the town of Mandi, and is divided into two campuses; North and South campus. The distance between both the campuses is about 3-4 km and students take buses to attend classes from the residential campus to the academic area.
- The South campus is developed as the academic block along with the sports facilities while the North campus will house the residential blocks. Currently, the South campus is fully operational and B.Tech freshers are allotted rooms there.
- The North campus hosts some PhDs and 3rd & 4th year B.Tech students. When fully operationalized, it will host all the undergraduate students.
So you need not worry about the campus, it is ready to host all its residents for the next 4 years of their life in a picturesque location.
What should I choose for M.Tech in Bio tech, IIT Mandi or NIT Bhopal?
I feel you are torn between the IIT and NIT tags here. In that case, new IITs are a better option unless you are considering top NITs like Warangal, Surathkal, or Calicut.
But it seems you have 2 generation NITs in your list only. In that case, IIT Mandi is a preferable choice.

How is MTech in signal processing and communication from IIT Mandi?
The M.Tech in signal processing offered by IIT Mandi was launched in 2017 and thus is a relatively new branch. This program has been taught in the School of Computing and Electrical Engineering (SCEE) since August 2017.
The program is designed to give importance to theory and exposure to industry needs.
It consists of two parts
- coursework
- and a year-long project.
The course work is structured to give solid theoretical foundations and practical, hands-on experience which would enable the student to tackle problems in signal processing, communications, and machine learning holistically.
In order to prepare the students for product development by the end of the first year, courses like Advanced Programming Practicum, Embedded Systems, IoT Systems, and Systems Design are included in the curriculum. In addition to the post-graduate project, these courses familiarize the students with the system design aspects relevant to signal processing, communications, and machine learning. The majority of the faculty is in image processing so the maximum course work is from image processing and very little from communication.
The hostel facilities, however, are quite a disappointment with students getting extremely small double occupancy rooms double in single occupancy rooms. The hostel rooms lack basic amenities like tables, chairs, LAN ports, etc. The first-year students are made to stay on the North campus while most labs and classes are on the South campus. Students have to travel a hilly terrain of 3 km just for attending lab sessions. With all honesty, the placement scenario of this particular specialization is poor. The only advantage of IIT Mandi you will have is the amazing climate and surroundings. Thus, make IIT Mandi your last choice and try to target NITs instead.
How is the data science branch at IIT Mandi?
Data Science is a relatively new branch and only a little can be commented on its scope since it takes years for a branch to grow and prove its worth.
However, we can say that it seems a promising branch as many professors are involved in research related to data science and thus a lot of opportunities like projects are made available to the students. Additionally, some companies prefer Data Science students to students of other branches.

How is M.Tech biotechnology at IIT Mandi in terms of research?
Choosing an M.Tech. in biotechnology for research purposes might not be a good decision.
For better job opportunities and placements, opt for other streams like CSC; otherwise, you will end up as a postgraduate in the biotech field without the perfect job you wish for.
The biotech department in most of institutions, including IITs, is weak in nature. Most students prefer other streams for their higher studies, which is a good idea to secure your career.
The only option left for you is to take the JRF and NET exams. If you have a strong interest in the biotech field prefer institutions like IISERs, TIFR, IISc, DU and JNU other than Mandi
