I know a few students at IIIT Guwahati and therefore, I would try to answer your question.

IIIT Guwahati is the highest-ranked IIIT among all the other IIITs by NIRF 2020. This is a huge achievement because it was established in 2013 under the Public-Private Partnership by the Government of India. It is growing rapidly.

The CSE program at IIIT Guwahati is very well-developed meeting the standards of an IIT. The institute provides a good research facility. Also, in the first year, the course is the same for CSE and ECE.

Here is a brief overview of the CSE program offered by these three institutes.

At IIIT Guwahati, the B.Tech CSE program first starts with computing-oriented courses and later allows the possibility of doing science courses. The institute will definitely quench your thirst for computer science.

IIIT Lucknow is a better option for a boy living in Uttar Pradesh because it is closer to home and provides a more homelike environment. 

At IIIT Lucknow, you will have access to all of the resources necessary for students to get the best placements and develop holistically. Among the newer IIITs, there is one of the best coding environments and placement statistics. The average placement in the first batch was 11.37 LPA. The reason for all of this is that they were mentored by IIIT Allahabad in their early stages, and today they are more than capable of providing world-class facilities on their own. 

The college has an exemplary placement rate. The college placement council is extremely helpful and walks us through the process of placement. The committee has the ability to bring in a large number of high-quality companies for placement. 

Both the IIITs are among the newly established IIITs which still have a long way to achieve the same level of big IIITs like Hyderabad. I have friends from both of these institutes who are currently pursuing their B.Tech.

According to them, both the colleges offer good quality education and compares neck to neck. Here’s how:

• Academics: As both of them are IIITs, the quality of academics and curriculum is great.
• Campus placements: Both IIIT Kota and IIIT Guwahati share similar placement patterns with last year’s highest package of 10 LPA for the CSE batch. You can say that both of them have mediocre placement records and a non-existent coding culture.
• Infrastructure: Guwahati takes the trophy because of its newly completed permanent campus. On the other hand, IIIT Kota still doesn’t have its own permanent campus and is estimated to be ready by 2024. It is currently running at NIT Jaipur’s campus.
• Location: This factor totally depends on where you are from. For someone who is from the Eastern half of the country, IIIT Guwahati is the best choice. Similarly, people belonging to the Western and half, IIIT Kota is good enough. There is no need to travel from across the country for these equally ranking institutes.

Overall, both of the IIITs are new and struggling with a lot of factors like placements, lacking coding culture and facilities. Nevertheless, IIIT Guwahati has a slight edge over Kota because of its permanent campus if the location is not a problem for you. However, better not to opt for either of these colleges unless you have a JEE rank between 15–25k, and don’t have greater options nearby.

NIT Agartala ECE will be a better option. It is older and offers better facilities. The ECE department has an excellent faculty pool. The recent highlight of NIT Agartala placement shows ECE has a placement rate of around 100%. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 8 LPA. The highest CTC offered goes up to INR 15 LPA. Adobe, Nokia, Byju’s, Tata, etc. are among the major recruiters that visit the placement drive.

IIIT Guwahati is a relatively new institute so its placement might not be at par with NITSilchar. Here is a brief comparison of the placement statistics of both institutes

Moreover, the academic environment is much better at NIT Silchar than at IIIT Guwahati. As for the location, NIT Silchar is gradually overcoming all connectivity issues and the situation is only going to get better. 

Ultimately, the final choice depends on your preferences. If you are inclined towards Mechanical, choose NIT Silchar but if you want to pursue a career in CS, definitely go for IIIT Guwahati.
