What is it like to do an internship at ISB Hyderabad?

RS
Radhika Srivastava Posted On : February 14th, 2023
Worked at Indian School of Business

The Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad provides a stimulating and friendly environment for interns, with many opportunities for networking and professional development. The school hosts a variety of seminars and guest lectures, which can be valuable for making connections and learning about different industries. One intern was able to secure an internship at General Electric by approaching a panelist at a seminar. Additionally, ISB Hyderabad is a great choice for those interested in starting their own business, as the campus offers resources and support for entrepreneurs.

Interns at ISB Hyderabad typically engage in data collection, research, and analysis as part of their work. The nature and scope of the work can vary depending on the project and the professor's goals. For example, an intern may be tasked with conducting web research and summarizing their findings, or they may be involved in more in-depth analysis and insight generation. The work may seem tedious at first, but it is an essential skill for a career in management consulting. Interns are encouraged to be creative and have frequent discussions with their professors.

The ISB Hyderabad campus is beautiful and well-maintained, with plenty of green spaces and areas for relaxation. There are also ample options for food and leisure activities. The only downside is that the school does not provide on-campus accommodation for interns.

Reshmi Sen Posted On : March 12th, 2021
Audit Senior at BDO USA, LLP (2019-present)

ISB has two campuses - one in Hyderabad and the other in Mohali. A selection of candidates based on the eligibility criteria set by its Admissions Committee every year. If this question is for ISB Hyderabad’s MBA program then the following criteria need to be fulfilled before applying:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline.
  • GMAT score of 650+
  • At least 24 months of full-time work experience.
  • TOEFL/IELTS/PTE score (only if the language of the undergraduate study level is not English)

To avoid rejection, make sure all the criteria are fulfilled. Also, you can apply for it through EEO or YLP.

  • EEO(Early entry option): After your graduation and before acquiring any work experience. Criteria for the EEO are the same as the general criteria, the only difference is that in EEO the work experience of the candidate can be less than 24 months.
  • YLP (Young leadership program): After your 12th standard or high school before your graduation and without any work experience.

ISB guarantees placements to up to 90% of the students with an average package of 28-29 LPA. They have tied up with international universities like Kellogg and Wharton school of business for international faculties and guest lectures. The infrastructure and facilities at ISB are commendable. The best option after IIMs with great payback.

How tough is it to pursue MBA from ISB Hyderabad?

AG
Akhil Gupta Posted On : March 24th, 2021
Studied at Indian School of Business (2019)

It all depends on your interest, passion, inclination and aptitude. If you are really into it, it’ll be a fun ride. Studying 32 subjects in 50 weeks successfully looks a tough task. You will certainly need a bit of multitasking to help you. Many students often struggle with this because they only lack multi-tasking.

Especially if you are coming from a non-engineering background you might need to put in some extra work to get used to the overall culture of doing more work in short deadlines. For someone looking from the outside, it sure looks a lot.

Moreover, there is an endless competition among the students there to be on the top of various lists such as merit list, dean list, scholarship list to name a few. If you have been a topper throughout the academic year, it gets tougher for you since you compete with the best of the batch.

The entire overall experience at ISB will depend how much potential and patience you have within. If you have any previous professional/corporate experience before joining ISB, it will be quite an enjoyable journey for you. You should take this journey as a challenging learning curve of your life.

Why is ISB Hyderabad so covert in Indian rankings despite having a fair global ranking?

MM
Madhura Mukhopadhyay Posted On : February 14th, 2023
MBA from Indian School of Business (Graduated 2018)

The Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad is an internationally recognized business school that holds accreditation from AACSB and EQUIS, which are both prestigious international accreditation boards. However, ISB is not accredited by AICTE, which is the accreditation board for technical education in India.

This is because ISB Hyderabad offers a unique one-year MBA program called the Post Graduate Program (PGP), which is designed for professionals with an average of 4.7 years of work experience. This program is not approved by AICTE, as it is not comparable to the traditional two-year MBA programs that are typically designed for freshers or individuals with less work experience.

ISB Hyderabad is also a globally oriented school, with a diverse faculty from top institutions such as Wharton and Kellogg, and a curriculum that is designed to reflect the standards of top US business schools. The PGP program does not compete with the two-year MBA programs offered by other Indian business schools and is therefore not featured in Indian rankings.

Which college is better for pursuing an MBA - IBS Hyderabad, ISB Hyderabad, or Symbiosis?

AS
Ankit Srivastav Posted On : March 16th, 2022
studied at ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad

The best option among these is ISB Hyderabad. It is compared to B-Schools like IIM A, B, C. It will be an ideal fit for you if you have prior work experience of around 5 years. ISB Hyderabad placements are excellent with high salary packages. The average CTC offered to the 2022 batch was INR 34 LPA

IBS Hyderabad can be a great option if you don’t have any work experience. According to the recent placement highlights, the average CTC received by the students of IBS is around INR 7.97 LPA

Symbiosis isn’t in the same league as these B-Schools. If you are interested in a career in HR, you can consider Symbiosis.

IIM A or ISB Hyderabad? Which one should I choose now that I have got a call from both of these schools?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : October 20th, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

Academics are brilliant at both of these institutes. They both follow case study pedagogy. But they are different from each other in many ways.

Here are some differences between them to help you find a better match for your PGPM-

  1. IIM Ahmedabad is much older, and has a rich legacy. ISB Hyderabad is comparatively new.
  2. ISB follows the European model of 1 year PGPM. IIMA offers 2 year PGPM, and 1 year PGPX.
  3. Even though the fee of PGP is higher at ISB, the course duration is lower at this college. This makes the short term ROI similar for both.
  4. ISB requires a minimum 2 year work experience from its applicants. On the other hand, freshers comprise over 25% of a PGPM batch at IIMA.
  5. The average work experience of an ISB PGPM batch is around 4.7 years, the same for an IIMA PGPM batch is less than 2 years.
  6. Recruiters at IIMA seek candidates with a strong academic and extra-curricular record, but low work-experience. This is especially true for marketing firms, which are the biggest recruiters at IIMA. Thus, you might face difficulty in finding roles suited to your profile and experience at IIMA. But in this case, you may consider the PGPX program offered by IIM Ahmedabad.
  7. IIMA PGPM and PGPX courses record higher average salaries as compared to ISB. But this can be explained by the much higher student intake of ISB.

I would recommend you choose the college that best suits your profile and career goals. Both of these business schools are highly renowned and good in their own way.

How do I prepare for isb Hyderabad?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : March 6th, 2023
Studied at the Indian School of Business

To prepare for GMAT, you should start by reviewing the test format and content, and develop a study plan that suits your learning style and schedule. Practice regularly with official GMAT materials and take practice tests to track your progress.

In addition to getting a good GMAT score, you should focus on building your resume. Look for relevant work experience, internships, or volunteering opportunities that align with your career goals. You can also enhance your profile by taking courses or certifications in your field of interest.

It's important to maintain good academic scores as well, especially if you're applying to top business schools. Make sure to prioritize your studies and aim for good grades throughout your academic journey.

Once you have a strong profile, you should work on creating a compelling story of why you want to pursue an MBA. Think about your career aspirations, your values, and how an MBA can help you achieve your goals. Use this story to guide your application materials, including your recommendations, essays, and interview responses.

To secure strong recommendations, choose people who know you well and can speak to your strengths and potential. Provide them with clear guidance on what you want to highlight in your application and give them enough time to write a thoughtful recommendation.

When it comes to writing your essay, be sure to showcase your unique perspective and voice. Use specific examples and anecdotes to illustrate your achievements and experiences. Take the time to revise and edit your essay to ensure that it's well-organized and error-free.

Finally, prepare for your interview by researching the school and the program, and practicing your responses to common interview questions. Dress professionally and be on time for your interview. Remember to be yourself, be confident, and demonstrate your enthusiasm for the program.
