Which is better, an IIT KGP CSE dual degree or an IIT Roorkee CSE B.Tech?
Without any second thoughts, choose IIT Roorkee CSE B. Tech over IIT KGP CSE dual degree because dual degrees are usually less preferred by companies coming for placements.
It’s better to do MTech after BTech than to opt for a dual degree. The main reason is that in Masters you are open to changing your branch in case your interest goes to another field. But a dual degree means you will be studying the same field with no option of changing in between.
Another major disadvantage of a dual degree is that you are not eligible to change your branch to a 4-year program irrespective of your CGPA
You will see your batchmates leaving a year before you and getting offers and settling well before you.
IIT KGP no doubt is older and better than IIT Roorkee in every aspect. But as far as the program is concerned, a dual degree is not worth spending so many years at all.

- Once you are clear with the kind of internship you want, you can start looking for companies that do not have the CG criteria.
- Another way to look for an internship Is to contact your department seniors because then help you understand how to prepare and what materials or books to follow, how much time to invest in your preparation,etc.
- If you are adamant about working on a certain topic, you can contact the people that work on such projects and get the general idea about what every company works on.
- Start looking for programs if you are willing to go for a research internship.
Lastly, if you fail to get selected in the choice of your program or are rejected because of low CGPA, don’t let that dishearten you because you have an entire year to focus on academics and projects and still can work on your placements.
What should I choose - Maths and Computing in IIT Kharagpur or CSE in IIIT Hyderabad?
A simple answer to this question would be IIT Hyderabad if you are looking for better academics and job prospects and IIT Kharagpur if you are on the lookout for a good social life.
Honestly, the course of math and computing at IIT KGP lacks the necessary requirements to impart true knowledge related to math and computing. The only reason why people still go for this course is the high placement packages offered at the end of five years. If you are adamant about joining IIT KGP, then I suggest you opt for a brand change and go for something that is more industry-relevant and worthy today.
