Which is better of the new IIMs out of IIM Kashipur and IIM Udaipur, especially for a Marketing profile?
You must compare the two institutes on the following criteria:
Placements in the field of marketing: The highest package at IIM Kashipur is INR 28.8 LPA, whereas, at IIM Udaipur, it is INR 26.56 LPA, according to the 2022 Placement Report.
Faculty in the Marketing field: The marketing department at IIMU is one of the most research-active departments in India. With nine full-time faculty members working in various paradigms and research areas in marketing.
At IIM Kashipur, marketing faculty members have published research papers in both leading international and Indian journals. It provides a wide range of elective courses in marketing for students to choose from.
Database resources at the library: In order to achieve this goal, the library has been offering services to its patrons like CD-ROM databases, and the online databases are made available through the Institute's network. Are New IIMs (Trichy, Udaipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur, Kashipur) good for MBA in Finance? If not suggest some B-schools. Really interested in investment banking.
Honestly speaking, a career in investment banking should not be considered by the new IIMs. It’s a too ambitious profile to match the relatively new curriculum of these IIMs. Even if you are in a top B School, you will have to remain among the top students to get placed for a front-end role. One can still get roles in corporate & business finance but getting roles in Investment Banking is rather difficult.
Yet if you are not choosing an older IIM and want to choose a newer one, IIM Trichy is the best among them. The order is
IIM Trichy > IIM Udaipur > IIM Ranchi
There are many B Schools apart from IIMs that offer great Investment Banking roles. These include SPJIMR, JBIMS Mumbai, IIFT, and XLRI.
Does IIM Kashipur provide scholarships to its students?
Yes, IIM Kashipur offers multiple scholarships to its students as a source of financial funding. It makes sure no student fails to pursue an MBA just because of a lack of funding. This financial assistance is based on the student's economic background and financial performance.
Need cum merit-based scholarship:
This is different from the scholarships offered by the state and central government based on reservation and poor economic background.
The students whose families' annual income doesn’t exceed INR 5 LPA for the last financial year will be eligible for the scholarship. IIM Kashipur provides 100%, 50%, and 25% fee waivers to eligible students and the criteria will be decided based on economic background and academic performance.

Which new IIM (Udaipur, Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Trichy and Kashipur) has the potential to join the league of ABC in future? Why?
Comparing the new IIMs with the IIM ABC is rather ridiculous and not justified. Considering factors like infrastructure, faculty, and alumni base, the top IIMs are way ahead of the new ones. Even if the new IIMs tackle the infrastructure and faculty issue they can never match the extraordinarily strong alumni base of the older IIMs. The IIMs A, B, and C have given birth to many geniuses that have contributed largely to Indian society in various fields like arts, literature, sports, etc. They have even made impressions globally.
No matter how fast the new IIMs climb up the ladder and excel, they will never be able to match the alumni base and worth of older IIMs.
What is the CTC of students in IIM Kashipur of a fresher with no work experience (approximately)?
You cannot exactly determine the average CTC of a fresher in IIM Kashipur. 150+ companies visited the campus for placements. Out of these, only a few had the criteria of minimum work experience and most of them granted the freshers equal opportunities.
The average of a fresher would not be much less compared to the average mentioned in the placement report ie., INR 15.21 LPA. Some of the freshers also grabbed PPOs/PPIs and didn't sit for Finals. So if you are a fresher, you can rest assured that it won’t affect your placement opportunities.
Should I take IIM-Kashipur/IIM-Raipur or take the CAT &/or GMAT again?
I know this decision is a bit difficult to make. What you need to keep in mind is that these two colleges should not be compared to other great IIMs or even ISBs. Those B Schools are at another level and cannot be on par with Kashipur or Raipur. To facilitate a better decision, I will mention the circumstances of these B Schools then you can choose after considering all options.
- IIM Indore and IIM Kashipur: Both these colleges are not worth a year drop as they will help you earn only an extra 1.5-2 LPA. Moreover, in the coming years, Kashipur and Raipur will have almost the same brand value as that Indore and Kozhikode.
- IIM Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Lucknow and Bangalore: All these top IIMs are definitely worth a year's drop provided that you are confident enough to cope with the cutoff. All these IIMs consider your academics while selecting so if that is your reason for the year drop I don’t think it will help. There is no surety of admission even after a percentile of 100.
- ISB: This one is at a whole different level and is in the category of elite B Schools like UCB, NYU, HBS, etc. The top-notch faculty offers amazing pedagogy at relatively low fees.
CAT is sufficient for IIMs. But if you want to go for ISB, a work experience of 4+ years and a GMAT are a must.
Why new IIMs are opened at places like Ranchi and Kashipur?
When you consider India's population, especially the working populations who migrate to these cities in search of jobs/education, etc., there aren't enough to sustain the pressure, and there aren't enough resources to support such a large crowd.
As evidenced by the conditions in these cities, the majority of them are either saturated or on the verge of saturation. As a result, the government must establish a new center for businesses, corporations, and so on. Opening a government institution such as IIT or IIM leads to an increase in business, at least locally, and later attracts investments from major market players such as real estate developers, malls, health care providers, and corporations, eventually leading to the industrialization or urbanization of cities.
To lessen the strain that these cities would otherwise face from having to support a new IIM or IIT, which would once more increase in-migration and intensify the city's problems. This could be one of the good reasons for this. So, establishing such institutions in these cities is, if not a good idea, a better idea. Many may contend that this represents a significant setback for some batches graduating from such Institutions at this stage of development.
How would you rank and choose among IIM Trichy, Raipur, Ranchi and Kashipur?
- Placements: Ranchi and Trichy have remarkably similar placements. Ranchi's average package is 16.62 LPA, while Trichy's average package is 17.01 LPA.
- Campus: Trichy, hands down, for campus life. Trichy has a modern 175-acre campus with all amenities. In 2021, the institute began moving to a permanent campus on a 60-acre plot in Dhurwa.
- Locational Advantage: Both have a geographical advantage. Ranchi is near XLRI, Jsr. Trichy is conveniently located between Bangalore and Chennai. Trichy is also home to NIT Trichy, the best NIT in the country.
- Perception: Trichy's perception is rapidly expanding. It is fairly obvious from all B-school rankings. So, with the exception of marketing, you can choose IIM Trichy over IIM Ranchi for any specialization. Ranchi's marketing is effective.
What should be the order of choice for new IIMs, i.e. Ranchi, Trichy, Udaipur, Kashipur, Rohtak and Raipur?
Your choice of college depends on your personal preferences and interests. One college might be suitable for you but not for others. So your question is subjective and cannot be answered directly.
Every individual ranks a college depending on his own perspective and goals.
I think the best way is to contact students or pass-outs from respective colleges, collect data and then make a decision based on your research and then your preference. You can also look up the official websites of the college to collect relevant data. Find out the parameters that matter to you the most in your choice of college. Some include placements, diversity, location, batch strength, or faculty. Do your part of the research and then choose the college that fulfills the maximum boxes in your priority list.

If you are interested in Operations, then IIM Kashipur is a really good option. It offers various opportunities to operations enthusiasts.
