One of my friends did the M.Tech Industrial safety engineering from NIT Trichy a few years ago. He along with his entire batch got placed.  The curriculum is revised frequently as per the feedback of the alumni. The faculty of this particular program are not just regular NIT Trichy professors but employees of BHEL Trichy. They ensure an understanding of the on-field environment with the help of some exceptional case studies. Such exposure helps the students under the real challenges of the safety profession before they endeavor on this journey. The NIT Trichy engineering alumni are well-regarded in the industry.

The reason this course is famous among MTech students is that it offers better job opportunities than other MTec programs. This field will open multiple doors for you if you are passionate about it and work hard to succeed.

You will be well-regarded because you are responsible for establishing a safe environment for workers and will also receive better pay. So,

The placement scenario of NIT Warangal, Surathkal, and Trichy is somewhat the same with minor differences only. One of my friends studied at NIT Warangal and shed some light on the placement scenario there. Here is a branch-wise analysis

  • CSE : The placements for the CSE branch are the best in NIT Warangal as well as Trichy and Surathkal. Students are placed in huge software giants like Microsoft, D.E.Shaw, Adobe, Directi, Tower Research Capital, Cisco, IBM, and some Investment Bankers like Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley, etc The average package of CSE recorded this year was INR 30.8 LPA for BTech while INR 30.43 LPA for MTech.
  • ECE - The companies coming on the first day of placements are Qualcomm, Broadcom, Nvidia, SanDisk India, Redpine Signals, Samsung, and Caterpillar, etc., Software companies like Cisco, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Oracle, etc allow ECE students to sit for placements. The average package for BTech students is INR 23.6 LPA and for MTech students is around NR 20.4 LPA.
  • EEE - Companies like Alstom, Reliance, and PSUs like Power Grid, IOCL, HPCL, etc., offer core profiles to EEE students. Additionally, software companies that come for ECE and CSE students also allow EEE students to sit for placements. The average package for EEE is INR 21.19 LPA for BTech students and between 11- 14.6 LPA for MTech students.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Companies like Caterpillar, Michelin, Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Volvo, Larsen and T0ubro, Vizag Steel Plant(RINL), etc., recruit Mechanical Engineering students of NIT Rourkela. The average package is INR 12.4 LPA for BTech students and between 9-12 LPA for MTech students.
  • Chemical Engineering: The Chemical engineering students are usually recruited by companies such as Reliance Industries, Dr.Reddy's Laboratories, Michelin tires, and some PSUs. A few even opt for Management or Consulting companies like MuSigma, Deloitte, IBM, etc., The average package is INR 14.8 LPA for BTech students and between 8-11 LPA for MTech students.
  • Civil Engineering - This is one of the oldest NIT Warangal branches that has recruiters like the Sobha developers group etc., Students opt for Management or Consulting companies like MuSigma, Deloitte, and IBM. The average package for BTech students is INR 13 LPA and between 6-8 LPA for MTech students.

Overall, placements are similar in all the 3 NITs, NIT Warangal, Trichy, and Surathkal.

What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at NIT Trichy?

VS

Here are a few helpful tips for first-year students at NIT Trichy for a smooth college life experience

  1. Prepare yourself for the extreme climate and don’t let it affect your studies in any way.
  2. Get yourself a cycle as the campus is huge and walking might waste a lot of time. Also, make sure your cycle is locked when you park it.
  3. Don't limit your interactions to a certain level or kind of people only. A huge social circle will enhance the learning experience as all your peers are exceptionally talented.
  4. Always contact your seniors in case of any issues they will guide you willingly.
  5. Even if you are feeling homesick, participate in the fests and try to involve yourself as much as you can. These experiences will give you amazing memories.
  6. Don't fall into the trap of ‘Grades don’t matter’. No matter what people say grades matter a lot in the long run be it for placements or higher studies so don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
  7. Identify your passions and look for the club that aligns with it. College life is about overall personality development and not just academics.

So, go ahead and have a blast!

Which college has a better quality of students, NIT Trichy or BITS Pilani, Pilani?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : July 19th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Both BITS Pilani and NIT Trichy have attracted the best minds in the country and are at par with each other in terms of infrastructure, academics, labs, job opportunities, and alumni network. However, there are two major differences

  • NIT Trichy like any other national institute has a quota/reservation for SC/ST/OBC etc but BITS being a private institute accepts students solely on the basis of merit. So the crowd here is more filtered and of better quality.
  • BITS Pilani fees are very high so the students there are from the high strata while NITs have competitively low fees so students from weak financial backgrounds also join.
  • BITS is hyped for its no-attendance policy and flexible time schedule.

Overall, BITS Pilani certainly gives an edge to NIT Trichy in terms of infrastructure and facilities but that stems from the fact that it is a private institute that charges high fees. So, if you are getting the same branch and you have no financial constraints, go for BITS while if you have money-related issues then NIT Trichy will do you enough. Always prioritize branch over Institute!

Are the placements in NIT Trichy getting worse compared to the previous years?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 19th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Whether the placements are improving or getting worse depends on the branch you are referring to. In the case of CSE, placements can be seen improving every year due to increasing demand in the market whereas placements of other core branches are deteriorating every year. However, this scenario is similar not only in the case of NIT Trichy but even in other IITs.

Students of core branches either

  • Pursue MBA or MTech after BTech to get placed better in the core sector
  • Start learning coding skills and sit for average IT companies

So, it’s better to sum for a better branch rather than blaming the institute. Some might deceive you into believing that the tag of the college matters more than anything. But in reality, it all depends on the branch you choose. Sometimes the JEE coaching centers promote IITs to a large extent that people tend to go for an under-average branch just for the IIT tag. I warn you against this as your career depends on your branch.

Generalizing the issue, if you happen to have a choice between lower branches at top engineering colleges like new IITs, NITs and higher branches in tier-1 colleges like BITS, CEG, and NSIT, I will say go for the latter.

Out of NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal and NIT Warangal, which one is the best for a CSE?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : September 14th, 2023
Lives in Warangal

The CSE from all three campuses is extremely sought after and has a high reputation in the job market. They are often compared to IITs. The choice between the two is therefore a matter of personal preferences.

Warangal gives a slight edge to Surathkal owing to its proximity to Hyderabad, the IT hub of India although the difference isn’t much noticeable. Surathkal has a slight advantage in terms of campus life and weather. It is the only college to have a private beach.

Ultimately, there aren’t any major differences between these colleges. If you want a better campus life go for Surathkal but if you want better academic opportunities go for NIT Warangal or NIT Trichy.

How can NIT Trichy become a top 3 technical institute in India by 2025?

GC
Gautam Chowdhury Posted On : July 18th, 2023
studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

Although many are here pointing out the flaws in NIT Trichy that might make it impossible to become a top 3 technical institute in India, people fail to understand that an institution of national importance is expected to address these flaws at a minimum. NIT Trichy is an educational institute and not a company that would focus on making its customers happy.

However, if I were to point out the major reason behind its bleak chances of becoming the top 3, then it would be a lack of effective leadership. We aren’t sure if the fact that NIT Trichy would have passionate leaders in the future especially because the recruitment process is not transparent and lacks alumni involvement. Additionally, the directors and HODs have an absence of vision, leadership personality, and biases.

So, in order to emerge as a top engineering college, NIT Trichy needs to adopt an academic niche for itself, both in teaching and research. It should choose at least 3, 4, or 5 academic niches that make it stand out among other institutes.  Another way to become the top is to eliminate the rest of the flab.

Ultimately, adopting a niche, carrying out it well, and letting every director follow it is the key. Only then will NIT Trichy be among the top 3 engineering colleges.

What is the prospect of production engineering in NIT Trichy?

HB
Himani Bose Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
B.Tech. Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu

Many people think that production engineering is mechanical minus thermodynamics. Which is not true. Production engineering is completely different from mechanical as the subjects are different.

My friend is currently in the 4th year of production engineering, NIT Trichy and according to him, it doesn’t really have a good prospect. Here’s why:

  • While other departments have 6 subjects per semester you’ll be having 7. This can get quite hectic for you at times.
  • Despite so much hard work, placements are not good at all. You will never be treated equally to your mechanical friends, however good your profile is.
  • Although you can go into most of the mechanical engineering fields like automobiles, industrial tools making, etc. you will be paid lesser than your mechanical engineer mates.

However, if you are planning for higher studies and research, then production is a very good choice. Being a production engineer opens up the manufacturing, industrial, and mechanical higher study options too. So, if placement after B.Tech. is your focus, please look elsewhere but if you are into higher studies then surely go for it. Choose wisely.

Which should I choose: CSE at BITS, Goa or CSE at NIT, Trichy?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : July 19th, 2023

I hope you are not the kind who evaluates and compares institutes solely based on their placement scenario. Here are a few things to consider while comparing CSE at BITS Goa and CSE at NIT Trichy.

  • Faculty: BITS Goa CS department has a better and more experienced faculty pool in comparison to the NIT Trichy CS department. BITS Goa has a thorough screening while recruiting and most professors are PhD holders from top colleges abroad as well from India.
  • Infrastructure: Both institutes are equally good in this aspect with top-notch infrastructure and facilities.
  • Peer group: The crowd quality is also similar considering that NIT Trichy being the top NIT attracts high-rankers while the no-reservation policy at BITS Pilani ensures only the best minds.
  • Brand value: BIT Pilani enjoys a better brand value because of its rich legacy and wins in this aspect although NIT itself is not very bad either.
  • Fees: This is where NIT Trichy takes the lead as its BTech one-year fee is only ?1.78 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) while BITS Goa BE first-year fee is ?5.72 Lakhs.
  • Placements: BITS Goa again is the winner here although, with excellent coding skills, you can get a great job in any of the 2 institutes.

So, unless you have any financial constraints, BITS Goa is the best choice for you.

What are some must experience classes at NIT Trichy?

JY
Joydev R. Yadav Posted On : September 6th, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2019)

One of my juniors is a recent sophomore at the institute and can update you more thoroughly than usual. Here are some things he mentioned,

  • Lately, he has interacted with 40% of the total faculty of NIT Trichy and has visited multiple classes.
  • He mentions that the production lab of the institute unfortunately does not use the entirety of its equipment.
  • Despite the presence of several types of machinery, students are mandated to use hacksaws for steel cutting.
  • The current scenario is more futile than what could be anticipated.
  • Moreover, as per what my friend mentions, the lab assistants are not permitted to use the machines.
  • However, the OJAS building, where most of the chemistry and physics labs are located, works comparably better.
  • He mentions that his experience was decent.

This is an overall justification of his experience as a whole. There is more to fill the space, yet just only needs exploration. Hope this helps answer your questions.
