The new IITs are just continuing the legacy of the already-established old IITs and are doing little to contribute to the IIT tag. BITS on the other hand has made its name solely because of its excellence and achievements. That being said, it's completely unfair to compare new IITs with BITS Pilani.
BITS Pilani was established in 1964 whereas the new IITs were established in 2008. The huge gap portrays the difference in legacy and alumni base. BITS Pilani gives an edge to new IITs in terms of both infrastructure and academic environments. Moreover, the Practice School program guarantees you internships and thus provides better exposure which you won’t be able to get at new IITs that are taking baby steps to make opportunities available to their students.
On a final note, it’s important to remember that your college is just a stepping stone and not the sole factor that determines your career. It’s all about your dedication, hard work, and making the most of the available resources!
BITS Pilani does not release course-wise placement statistics so the information I have mentioned is not from official resources but from someone who was in the previous batch.
As per him, all ME CS students get placed and around 3 to 4 students with better CGPA are chosen to sit in PS -2. BITS Pilani placement takes place in 2 semesters. In the second placement semester, students get excellent internship offers on the basis of their CGPA. Top recruiters who recruit ME CS students are Qualcomm, Cisco, Mathworks, Microsoft, and Amazon.
Another friend who was in the 2020 batch claimed that almost 100% of the students were placed. The highest salary package offered was 50 LPA, while the average salary package offered was 20 LPA and the minimum salary package offered was 10 LPA. Top recruiter companies are Google, Amazon Sprinklr, Cisco, Samsung, Microsoft, and many others.
Overall, ME CS students need not worry about placements at all.
Here are a few pics of the BITS Pilani hostel and rooms
The above picture is that of a balcony inside a room. Here the wifi speed is at its best.
The hostel facilities are great and rooms allotted are usually double occupancy.
A good institute is a very generic term. Everyone has their own criteria for a ‘good institute’. In my opinion, a good institute is one that offers an excellent college life experience combined with a top-notch education.
BITS Pilani has a poor NIRD Rank because NIRF focuses on research and the location of the institute while evaluating this, 2 factors that BITS Pilani fails miserably in. However, if you look at other rankings, BITS Pilani scores pretty well.
Additionally, BITS Pilani has excellent infrastructure and hostel facilities. It also organizes 3 major and several minor fests. Oasis is the second-largest cultural fest after IIT Bombay Mood Indigo. Considering all this, I think BITS Pilani is certainly a good institute.
The first year spent at BITS Pilani is a very close-to-heart memory of every student here. You will feel a rollercoaster of emotions and end up creating memories for a lifetime.
You will feel happy for making it into your dream college and will feel satisfied that your future is in safe hands now. You will experience a new kind of freedom here with no restrictions on waking up, eating, or even attending classes.
You can be a part of a club or department and will be entrusted with huge responsibilities related to organizing events such as Oasis. You will be interacting with students from across the country from different cultures and backgrounds.
The first-year tests might be a bit challenging because of the tough competition here. The seniors and professors are very motivating here and you can always approach them for help.
You will go from being excited to feeling demotivated when your wingmate scores more than you. The first year will be tough on you but will prepare you for the real world.
You will cherish the lessons you learn in the first year forever!
Work Integrated Learning Programme (WILP) from BITS Pilani will not offer you much advantage while applying for a job. Most companies view WILP as a distance learning program. However, the BIT tag can help you get a job.
This course offers good learning opportunities. You can do Ph.D. from reputed universities after completing this course.
No, I don’t think BITS will ever get an IIT status. The IITs are no longer the statement because their brand value has been diminished owing to their increasing numbers. The reason why IITs gained fame in the first place was because of their exclusivity which has been hampered now.
BITS on the other hand will never choose to dilute its brand name as it stands high with the Birla brand. It has been maintaining its exclusivity and the IIT status will do no good to its reputation.

It's important to note that if you go for an external scholarship, you won’t be eligible for the above scholarships.
My cousin managed to score a GPA of 9.69 in the first semester at BITS Pilani and claimed it not to be as challenging as everyone claims it to be. In fact, in her batch, almost 50 out of 1100 students had a GPA >=9.5 and 9 students had a GPA of 10.
Every single degree student except EEE has to study the following subjects
Here, specific means EEE and dual degree students don’t study these courses, common means the courses they have in common. In all, you have 16 units which makes a total of 160 points. In order to score a 9.5+ GPA, you will have to score more than 152 points
Lastly, to get full marks in tutorial tests, make sure you are regular in classes and focus on the ongoing topics.
Well, it depends on your goals and priorities. BITS Pilani MS is a great option if you just want to improve your profile and maintain a good status in society. But if you are taking this program to uplift your career then you will be regretting it big.
My uncle who works for an MNC often is entrusted with the job of hiring freshers from well-Reuter colleges and claims that MS students aren’t given any special attention unless they are from IIT or NIT.
The MS program offered by WIPRO is a scheme to mislead employees to believe that a useless degree is better than anything. They will use this degree as a lash on you to ensure you stay committed to the company and work at a discounted rate. It's better to not fall for such schemes and look at the bigger picture. Your salary will never increase if you stick to these companies.
So, if you are looking for some certifications, then go for some niche skills that are more valuable than a BITS Masters Degree.
