There are no logical reasons to regret joining a prestigious Institute like IIT unless

  • You are unable to cope academically and feel behind the class
  • You are not able to achieve or learn what you were expecting
  • You are unable to socialize or face some serious issues

It’s important to understand that scoring high marks should not be your only agenda as IITs give so many opportunities and you can learn so many new things. Your constant efforts and determination will keep you afloat even when everything is falling.

Make the most out of your 4 years at IIT by doing things such as

  • Participate in cultural fests, and clubs,
  • Make new friends
  • Attend the classes with the right mindset to learn
  • Learn to work hard without giving up
  • Involve yourself in sports
  • Physical exercise at the gym
  • Hang out with friends

So, there are so many things you can do at IIT Delhi rather than regretting your decision. The time you will waste regretting will not come back, so why not utilize it to the fullest and live a memorable life.

I am a recent IIT Delhi grad and have competing offers from Google India and Uber India. Which one should I join?

AS
Ashmita Sinha Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
Masters from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

I would rather recommend you go for Uber than join Google (India). A few reasons that justify my opinion are

  • Uber offers a better pay scale than Google India
  • The work culture and nature at Uber are rather stimulating and will always challenge your abilities
  • You can move to bigger companies after gaining experience at Uber but the opposite won't be likely possible.
  • Employees at Google India are always leaving either for the US or higher studies and the stability of the job is very low.
  • The work environment at Uber is demanding, and exhilarating, posing new challenges every day making it a dynamic one

Basically, the work environment at Google is more stable and monotonous without many challenges which are suitable after you attain a certain age and maturity. Till then you are open to challenges that can be sought at dynamic companies like Uber that will help you grow better.

What can be a better option (I have no interest), IIT Delhi biotech or IIT Kanpur civil?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : April 19th, 2023

With no specific area of interest, the best option for you is IIT Delhi Biotechnology. Here are a few points to support my opinion

  • Old IITs have the benefit of equal opportunities for all students irrespective of their branch.
  • You are eligible for placements in all types of companies including software.
  • As a biotechnology student, you get to do internships in various sectors like IT, finance, etc.
  • Exceptionally good grades can fetch you good packages
  • The quality of college life is better ij IIT Delhi than in Kanpur.

IIT Delhi is the dream college of many owing to the excellent brand name and opportunities it offers. Trust me, once you are inside your branch will hardly matter.

What is it like to study Textile Technology at IIT Delhi?

SM
Subhashree Modak Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (2020)

IIT Delhi Textile department is still in its infancy and unfortunately, is one of the least demanded branches. The scope and opportunities offered are meager. To put it rightly, it does not do justice to the brand name of IIT Delhi.

  • During the orientation itself, it’s revealed how almost the entire batch wants to get their branch changed eventually
  • The department is located far away from the main campus and other major departments and this segregation is quite demotivating
  • The course material is not up to the standards of IIT Delhi and the tremendous coursework just adds to the misery
  • The students mug up the concepts mostly rather than understanding them
  • The lab work is monotonous and the research opportunities are limited
  • The teachers are extremely retarded investing zero effort in increasing the quality of teaching or making it more lively
  • Most importantly, the placement scenario of this department is pathetic with no good company ready to recruit students for this branch

Many people think that this branch might somehow open opportunities for them if they involve themselves in extracurricular activities and so but then the entire purpose of the department is negated. Still, for the most desperate, this might be the only option. So, it’s advisable to go to this branch only if it’s the last option you have.

Is it a good choice to prefer IIT Delhi textile over IIIT Delhi CSE, considering the fact that branch change is quite hard in IITD?

SK
Sanjana Kapoor Posted On : October 4th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

IIT Delhi has a much greater brand value as compared to IIIT Delhi. IIT D is superior in many aspects, one of which is campus life.

I have many friends in IITD Textile. They bagged foreign internships in the IT sector during their second year.

The coursework for Textile is very manageable. You’ll get ample time to practice coding on your own. Don’t worry about branch change. Even for a career in CS/IT, self-practice will get you through. Also, opt for the open electives offered at IIT Delhi. You’ll ace CS/IT placement tests, and secure a good job.

Thus, I would recommend you choose IIT Delhi Textile over IIIT Delhi CSE.

What are the humanities courses that one should do at IIT Delhi?

KS
Kunal Sharma Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Usually, two types of people opt for humanities courses. One prefers a laid-back schedule and easy grading while the other prefers challenging coursework and exciting lectures. My friend was kind to opt for a more lively course than spend his classes yawning away. He chose some courses like

  • Mind, Machines, and Language
  • Language and Communication
  • Creative Writing

Another extremely learned professor taught him Science, Society, and Technology. No doubt the course was very rigorous and demanding, but my friend enjoyed the course anyways. There were deep discussions, readings, and assignments which sometimes seemed too hectic, yet the entire process was intriguing and exciting at the same time.

Another course my friend opted for was Moral Literacy and Moral Choices which taught him concepts of Philosophy that none knew about. The course was very interesting. He talked about various thinkers and their philosophical teachings which transformed the students into another world.

All the humanities courses offered at IIT Delhi are intriguing and the parity of professors cannot be doubted. Go for any course that sparks a ray of interest in you!

Which one is better MBA from IIM Shillong or IIT Delhi and why?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : January 27th, 2023
Former Ph.D. Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

IITs are known for having smaller batch sizes. However, the finance placements at IIT Delhi may be subdued due to the institute's focus on operations and technology. It is worth noting that both IIT Delhi and IIM Shillong have competitive placements and have not yet grown their batches to the point where this becomes a concern. IIM Shillong has strong finance placements, including ICICI Bank, which is a well-regarded employer for MBA graduates.

It is difficult to compare the two institutes as they both have their own strengths and advantages. IIT Delhi has a long history and its DMS programs are well-established in the industry. If a student is considering IIT Delhi and has concerns about the college's focus on investment banking, it is important to note that this career path is not heavily dependent on starting placements and individuals can be self-reliant in building their careers. IIT Delhi is likely to continue growing and expanding in the future, and IIM Shillong is well-positioned among the newer IIMs in RRRTUCS. It will also continue to build its research and faculty strength, particularly after it gets a new campus.

Location is a factor to consider when choosing between the two institutes. IIT Delhi is located in urban New Delhi, which may be an advantage for some students. However, it is worth noting that the lack of investment in MBA programs at IITs, including Delhi, could become a problem in the long term as the field requires significant expenses in faculty, coursework, and programs to remain competitive. Currently, IIT Delhi is ahead of the newer IIMs, particularly if a student is interested in a consulting placement straight out of school.
