Which is better, BITS Goa CS or Hyderabad CS?

TG
Tridha Gupta Posted On : July 30th, 2022
B.Tech Computer Science, Manipal Institute Of Technology (2021)

BITS Hyderabad CS is a better option. Although BITS Goa is older, the CS program on the Hyderabad campus went through rapid growth in a very short time. The reason can be ascribed to the location advantage. Hyderabad is a cybercity, so it's easier for students to get projects, internships, and placement opportunities.

The 2022 statistics of BITS Hyderabad placements show the average CTC for CS to be around INR 22 LPA. The highest CTC offered for CS, this year was INR 43 LPA. MNCs like Apple, Google, Amazon, Adobe, etc. visit the placement drive of BITS Hyderabad regularly.

Which is better to join DTU/NSIT/IIITD or new IITs or BITS Goa/Hyd Dual for CSE?

AB

I won’t recommend you choose a dual program from BITS. For CSE, I would highly recommend IIIT Delhi. It has great research opportunities. It does not have the same branch value as NSUT Delhi/ DTU, but its growth rate is high. It will soon become a brand like IIIT Hyderabad. Compared to the new IITs, IIITD has a locational advantage because it is situated in the national capital.

BITS dual is a decent choice, but only if you get a CS. It depends on your performance in the first year. The odds of getting a CS are less than 20% which is pretty low, and the cutoffs keep getting higher each year. As far as the ‘BITS’ tag is concerned, it's really not that important in reality.

For the new IITs, go only if you are getting a CS over there. Do not rely on branch change. Also, avoid going to those located in small/ secluded towns because then you won’t get a lot of exposure. Also, do consider the faculty and infrastructure if you plan to go to a new IIT. My order of preference for CSE is IIITD > NSUT Delhi/DTU > BITS Goa/Hyderabad > IIT.

Thus, for a CSE, I would suggest you to choose either IIITD or NSUT Delhi/DTU.

CSE BITs Hyderabad vs IIT Dhanbad?

BJ
Bharti Jaiswal Posted On : February 25th, 2021

Well, before answering this question, the heartiest gratitude to all the candidates who have cracked this toughest engineering entrance in India.

The main thing is that you must decide why do you want to join IIT. Is it only for the IIT tag, or you want to follow your passion?

The tagline of IIT is obviously important, but it works only if you are studious towards your dream. Otherwise, it becomes worthless as well as you will ruin the reputation of these institutes, that IIT.

Another important thing to be considered that if you are outstanding in CSE and gets the chance in IIT Dhanbad, then you will be to do more research, over-viewing the facts, like infrastructure and facilities of both of these institutes. However, BITs is generally better, and one of my friends was there for BITSAT 2017; the institute is really awesome.

Additionally, IIT Dhanbad is the old IITs, but it is still an IIT, and it gives the student a great height regarding their future career perspectives. It is properly funded still now and will be better in next year’s. But you should not expect a better life here than BITs Hyderabad. The main thing that should always be remembered is that good institutes always lead to a confident pathway, but you have to go alone in this pathway to fulfill your passion.

Thus, you must choose your branch first; after that, you can move forward.

Civil Engineering at BITS can never be compared to that of Thapar University as its way ahead in terms of infrastructure and opportunities.

  • The curriculum is updated and at par with industry standards.
  • The faculty base comprises highly experienced professors and even assistant professors.
  • BITS enjoys excellent global recognition so if you are planning to pursue a Master's from a foreign university, the BITS brand will come in handy.
  • The professors have strong ties with international universities and their excellent LORs help you get admission to top universities.

So, BITS Civil Engineering is way superior to Thapar University Civil Engineering.

Between an M.Sc chemistry in BITS Hyderabad and CSE in VIT, which is better?

BG

Based on mine and my friends’ experiences, here are some points I would like for you to consider in this regard-

  1. The branch should always be your top priority. For a dual degree in CSE at BITS Hyderabad, you’ll need to score more than 7.6 CG. That would mean an average +30 in most subjects (relative grading). Phoenix Dual is a better option than VIT CSE.
  2. Dual degree will take away a lot from your campus life. You won’t be able to enjoy clubs and events to the fullest.
  3. BITS Hyderabad undoubtedly has a better crowd quality. Moreover, it carries the prestigious ‘BITS’ tag.
  4. BITS will give you a more quality campus experience with better academics.

The decision has to be made by you, but I hope that these points will guide you. Whatever you choose, make sure to maintain a good academic performance in college, so that you end up getting decent job offers.

How is ECE at BITS Hyderabad?

AS

Like any other branch, ECE also demands your dedication and passion. Here are some important things to note about B.E. ECE at BITS Hyderabad-

With respect to placements, I can’t make any judgments. This is because placements are solely based on an individual’s skill set and academic record. The curriculum is quite diverse and contains a range of topics including Physics of semiconductors, machines and drives, signal processing, coding theory, etc.

Though the curriculum is diverse, you won’t be able to acquire an in-depth knowledge of any particular area. Moreover, the course is huge and time consuming. But, by diligently covering it, you’ll become confident and knowledgeable.

ECE is like any other branch at BITS Hyderabad (and the other campuses), and it is a myth that this branch is exceptionally tough and non scoring.

Which is better, BITS Hyderabad CSE or BITS Hyderabad ECE?

As a class 12th student, it is normal that you have a very limited knowledge of different fields in engineering.

Out of 8 semesters, the first 2 are the same for all branches at BITS. During these 2 semesters you’ll be taught one fundamental course from each branch and some engineering mathematics. In the 7th and 8th semester, you’ll choose open electives from your branch or other branches.

Now as for placements, you can choose some CS courses as your open electives during your ECE, which will help you for IT placements. Even though at present, people tend to focus only on CSE, the demand for ECE will rise in the coming years due to increasing growth in IOT, Smart sensors, Robotics and Communication systems.

Here are the important courses from both these branches-

  1. CSE- Object Oriented Prog (JAVA), Logic In Computer Sc., Discrete Structures, Principles Of Programming Languages, Data Structures & Algorithms, Database Systems, Computer Networks, Computer Architecture.
  2.  ECE- Electrical Machines, Electromagnetic Theory, Electronic Devices, Communication Systems, EM Fields & Micro Engineering, Control Systems, Signals & Systems, Microelectronic Circuits, Common Courses Of ECE and CS, Digital Design, Microprocessors and Interfacing.

You can research a bit and then decide which branch will suit you the best. Overall, both these branches are really good, and you’ll have an amazing time at BITS Hyderabad.

What do IITians think of BITS Goa/Hyderabad?

GS
Gautam Sinha Posted On : April 26th, 2023
MSc + BTech dual from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus

BITS Goa and BITS Hyderabad are both well-known private engineering colleges in India that offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various disciplines including engineering, science, and management. These institutions are known for their excellent infrastructure, quality education, experienced faculty members, and industry-academia collaborations. Both institutions have a strong reputation in the industry and are recognized for producing skilled professionals in various fields.

While there may be some differences in the curriculum and overall approach to education between IITs and BITS, both institutions are known for their academic rigor and focus on research and innovation. IITs are known for their strong emphasis on engineering and technology, whereas BITS offers programs in various disciplines.

Many IITians may view BITS Goa/Hyderabad favorably as they recognize the high-quality education and excellent infrastructure that these institutions offer. In fact, some IITians may have even considered BITS as an option while choosing a college for themselves.

However, it is important to note that opinions may vary among individuals, and some IITians may have a different perspective on BITS Goa/Hyderabad based on their personal experiences or other factors. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to do their own research and make an informed decision on which institution is best suited to their needs and aspirations.

I am likely to get EI at BITS Hyderabad and CSE in local top EAMCET colleges in Telangana. Which one should I prefer, or shall I drop this year?

AS
Aishwarya Shastri Posted On : December 22nd, 2023

I was in a similar dilemma last year, and ended up choosing BITS Hyderabad. My friends who chose top EAMCET colleges regret their decision at present. BITS does not only offer good academics, it also gives a lot of opportunities and exposure to its students.

If you are passionate about CS, then opt for a dual degree program at BITS, or CS at other colleges. But if you do not have a specific branch in mind, opt for BITS. Later on, you might want to switch from engineering to some other sector, like finance.

The clubs and departments at BITS Hyderabad will give you ample exposure to understand your interests and goals. Moreover, top investment banks, and companies from various sectors visit the campus with good placement offers every year.

BITS Hyderabad has a far better placement record and brand name as compared to EAMCET colleges. It has a rich curriculum, unlike the EAMCET colleges, which give all the importance to theory, and coding is not taught properly. BITS Hyderabad has a good infrastructure with lush green campus.

Thus, if you do not have a specific branch preference, I would recommend BITS Hyderabad over EAMCET colleges any day.

Between MSc physics at BITS Goa and MSc physics at BITS Hyderabad, which one should one choose?

AP
Anamika Pathak Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied Bachelors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (2018)

You should definitely go with BITS Goa. The physics faculty at the institute is really good and no one can reiterate this enough. If you happen to take courses like Mechanics and OScil, you will realize this in the first year itself.

Moreover, the college festival, Waves, is a major highlight. Many discussions regarding the best departments in the college have always had synchronous replies with physics being the major answer. The faculty members are well versed in the field and are dedicated individuals.

But if you are still confused, you must know that the curriculum and syllabus are the same on all three campuses. Your degree will finally specify that you graduated from BITS Pilani.
