AV
Advika Varangi Posted On : March 20th, 2023
M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH) (Graduated 2020)

If you are planning to pursue M.Tech in Computer Science, it is highly recommended that you consider IIT Hyderabad over IIT Guwahati. Some of the reasons are given below:

  • The data provided by the institute indicates that almost all students from the Computer Science department at IIT Hyderabad get placed in the first phase of placements, which is exclusive to the CSE branch. This is a significant advantage over IIT Guwahati.
  • Many students from other colleges also get placed in the Computer Science department at IIT Hyderabad, but most of them will be in IT firms. On the other hand, placements in IT firms at IIT Hyderabad will be nearly zero. Instead, most students will be placed in big companies such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and the Artificial Intelligence sector, among others.
  • The coding culture at IIT Hyderabad is one of the best among all IITs, with regular exposure to high-level coding competitions.
  • IIT Hyderabad's location is a significant advantage, as Hyderabad is a hub for many new companies, making it easy for HR to recruit from the institute.

In summary, it is highly recommended that you consider IIT Hyderabad for your M.Tech in Computer Science Engineering as it would offer you the best opportunities for your future career.

How can I change my branch in IIT Hyderabad?

SY
Seema Yadav Posted On : May 9th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad

Branch change to CSE and EE is quite difficult but branch change to another specialization is not that difficult. Generally, it’s easier to get a branch change in IIT Hyderabad because in the first semester itself, you will be studying departmental courses rather than the same syllabus.

The branches that have easy branch change are Material, chemical, and civil. These have easier first-semester curriculum as a result of which their average SGPA is usually 8.5+. Branches like CSE, EE, and Engineering Science rarely have any students that cross the 8.5 SGPA hence they didn't apply for the same.

In conclusion, it’s easier to get a branch change if you belong to Metallurgy, Chemical, or Civil rather than EE or Mechanical.

How good is IIT Hyderabad? I am getting Electrical Engineering at IITH? How is the campus life?

PK
Pravesh Kumar Posted On : May 9th, 2023

IIT Hyderabad is a new IIT that has been growing at a fast pace and is expected to reach the level of older IITs in no time. Its EE Department is excellent with a good updated curriculum. Unlike older IITs, the courses covered are industry relevant and that’s what sets it apart from the EE department of other IITs.

Its syllabus includes various Electronics as well as Electrical courses. Additionally, it contains Machine Learning, sound processing using Python and R, Internet of Things(IoT), and home automation also.

The courses are much more advanced in comparison to courses offered in the EE Department of other IITs that just revolve around generators, motors, and outdated heavy machines. The new IITs may lack in other aspects but their curriculum is modern and useful.

Infrastructure-wise, IIT Hyderabad is a bit lacking considering the fact that it's still in the developing phase. The hostels of the new campus are great with radiant cooling systems. However, the campus lacks greenery and much-needed sports facilities.
