The Young India Fellowship program (YIF) offered by Ashoka University is excellent.

Many other institutions are offering Young India Fellowship programs. Most of the reviews were in favor of Ashoka University. After a lot of searching, I managed to find Ashoka university. I called them about such programs, and in a soft tone, they asked me to visit campus.

Ashoka University’s B.Sc Economics program offers a major in Economics and interdisciplinary majors in Economics and Finance, Economics & History, and in Politics, Philosophy and Economics(PPE). NMIMS offers Economics courses which include core subjects as well as subjects like Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, IT, etc.

Both the universities offer decent placement. Top recruiters at Ashoka University are 4 MC, Kenzie Banks, and other social sectors and the average package offered was around 6-7 LPA. In NMIMS 77% of the BSc Economics students got placement from 2016-19 batch with an average package of 4.6 LPA. Top recruiters in NMIMS are Ernst & Young, Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, etc. Ashoka University also offers good internship facilities and summer exchange programs.

Compared to NMIMS, Ashoka University facilities are much better. Most of the faculties of Ashoka University are alumni of Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, etc. The course fees for Economics for the first year at NMIMS is Rs 2.75 lakhs while at Ashoka University the course fee is Rs 8.18 Lakhs. Both the universities provide scholarship facilities to meritorious students and those who need financial aid.

Both Narsee Monjee (NMIMS) and Ashoka University offer decent Economics programs which makes it difficult to pick one university over the other. So, choose according to your convenience.

Ashoka University is established in a better manner with its campus, facilities, and members of faculty. Here are some of the facts about both Ashoka and Krea.

• The hostel, library, students, and, most importantly, the great instructors comprise Ashoka.

The admission process at Ashoka University is quite through. The candidates should have a good academic record. In the 9th and 10th standard, you should have a GPA of more than 9 or more than 90 percent mark and this is an absolute requirement. Apart from that, it would be helpful if you have good extracurriculars. The extracurriculars include internships and competitions.

In the application form, students are required to write an essay that should be well crafted and creative. Some of the applicants are shortlisted for the interview rounds where the administrative officers check the claim based on your candidature. You have to show interest during the interview for joining Ashoka and if you outshine national-level toppers, sports players, and other qualified applicants you will get an offer from Ashoka. Ashoka University is a liberal arts university which provides under graduation and post-graduation courses for both science and humanities streams. The university focuses on holistic development of an individual. The institute also follows a holistic admission procedure. Another speciality of this university is that it provides an interdisciplinary major. Admission to the university is a three stage process and is very selective. So, whether the university is worth joining depends upon the following factors:

• Placement

Ashoka University guarantees 100 per cent placement. The jobs are offered in diverse fields such as Administration, Business Development, Employee Engagement, etc. Highest salary package offered is Rs 23 Lakh per annum and the average salary package offered ranges between Rs 6 Lakh per annum to Rs 9 Lakh per annum. Top recruiters are Airtel, Axis Bank, Clix Capital, Deloitte US, Mckinsey & Company, etc. The university also provides several internship opportunities for students. One of them is the Summer Abroad Programme wherein the students could pursue courses at international institutions.

• Exposure

Ashoka University provides global exposure to its students. Ashoka University has tie-ups and partnerships with nine top universities of the world such as Yale, King’s College London and University of Michigan.

• Faculty

The university offers world class faculties. Majority of them are alumni of Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, etc. The student faculty ratio is 1 faculty to 10 students, which is a good faculty ratio for effective learning.

• Fee structure

The course fee structure is quite to the expensive side. The total fees structure is approximately Rs 8.18 Lakhs.

• Scholarship

Scholarships are provided for students based on merit and financial need. 55% of students on the campus are studying with financial aid. The university provides upto 100 per cent tuition waiver scholarship, and scholarship which covers up the meal and hostel fee.

• Infrastructure

Even though the campus size spreads over 25 acres, the infrastructure is new and well built. The university has full-fledged Wi-Fi, good library, classrooms, etc.

Ashoka University offers undergraduate programs in B.A and B.Sc, for which the fee is 24.55 lakh for 3 years and 16.7 lakhs for 2 years respectively. Students seeking admission must have completed 10+2 from a recognized school. The placement percentage of the University is 90-95% where top recruitment firms like Microsoft, Deloitte, Mckinsey & Co., Toshiba, and many more visit the campus. The average package which a graduate receives is 10 lakh p.a. whereas the highest package offered is 19 lakh p.a.

Coming to Azim Premji University, the fees structure for B.A and B.Sc is 1.58 and 4.2 lakhs respectively for 3 years, which is relatively less when compared to Ashoka University. The eligibility criteria for obtaining admission is that the student must have a 50 % aggregate score in class XII and he must not be above the age of 19. Companies visiting the campus frequently are Galaxy Project, CMS India, BOSCH Ltd, Cipla Ltd, etc., and they recruit 80% of the graduates. The average package is 3.8 lakhs p.a. and the highest salary offered is 4.85 lakhs p.a.

Anyone who is looking to start their career from a multinational company and is ready to invest a good amount of money in their education can choose to study at Ashoka University as they have got the best placement percentage and having brilliant companies coming to recruit at their campus. Azim Prem University as well offers good placement with comparatively less investment in the fees.

Ashoka University offers a good Psychology program. To get admission students are required to take an aptitude test which is followed by a personal interview and/or group discussions.

The total course fee is approximately 21.35 Lakhs for three years.
The major in Psychology focuses on the development of expressive and analytical skills that are the basis of critical thinking, investigation and communication in the field. The department offers a range of courses structured around three tiers: Fundamental courses, Core Domain courses, and Electives. The course is spread over 6 semesters.

The companies that hire students offer an average package of 6-7 LPA. Top recruiting companies include Brain and Company, Mckinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Dalberg, Samagra, MuSigma, Earnst and Young, IIFL, Genpact, Team Computers, Katalysers, InfoEdge, etc.

The psychology program at Ashoka is a good program but nevertheless, it is quite competitive. If you want to get a better idea of how the course is structured and how the classes are conducted, attend the demo classes during campus visits which will help you to assess it for yourself.

For BA Economics honours LSR will be a better option as compared to Ashoka University. Given below are the reasons why.

1. Lady Shri Ram (LSR) is one of the most reputed colleges in Delhi and it also has an enviable alumni base. The focus of Delhi University’s system is a lot more on the undergraduate programs. The professors sincerely dedicate a minimum of 35 hours for teaching.

2. Ashoka University is also a good university but it is quite expensive to pursue a course from as compared to LSR/DU. The course fee BA Economics (Hons.) degree is 16,390 for first year in LSR. At Ashoka University the course fee is 8.85 lakhs for the first year for BA Economics (Hons.) degree.

3. LSR will provide you with a strong and ambitious peer group as the students of LSR Economics students aim for Yale and Harvard universities after their graduation.

4. The placement rate and record of LSR is better than Ashoka University.The students at LSR get placed with placement packages ranging between 5-15 LPA. MNCs like EY, Mckinsey, BCG, etc. visit the campus to recruit students. On the other hand, the students at Ashoka University receive an average placement package of 6-7 lakhs. Companies like Deloitte, Clix Capital, Business Standard, Genpact, India Infoline Finance Limited, McKinsey & Co, etc. visit the campus for placement drives.
