Can I get NIT Goa with a 97 score?

ST
Shantanu Trivedi Posted On : March 15th, 2023
Studied at the National Institute of Technology, Goa

Admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa is highly competitive and is based on a candidate's performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main. The JEE Main exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is held twice a year.

The admission process at NIT Goa is based on a candidate's JEE Main score and rank in the JEE Main exam. The JEE Main score is calculated based on a candidate's performance in the entrance exam and their marks in their 12th board exams in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). This is a mandatory requirement for admission to any NIT.

It is difficult to predict whether a score of 97 in JEE Main will be sufficient to secure admission to NIT Goa. The cutoff for NIT Goa varies each year based on factors such as the number of candidates who have applied, the difficulty level of the exam, and the availability of seats. Typically, a percentile of 97-98 or higher is required to have a good chance of securing admission to an NIT.

It's important to note that admission to NITs is highly competitive, and candidates need to perform exceptionally well in the JEE Main exam to secure a seat. In addition to a high score, candidates must also meet the eligibility criteria set by the institute and provide all required documentation as part of the admission process.

Can I get a seat at NIT Goa with 145 marks in the JEE Mains?

DS

It is not mentioned in your question whether the home state of Goa is applicable for you or not. Not only this, the category from which you belong is also not mentioned in the question (General/OBC/SC/ST).

However, I would try my best to provide you with a suitable answer based on official data for the past few years, the total number of seats vacant, and the various departments available at the institution.

  • You can easily get enrolled in a better NIT like many of the older ones.
  • You can surely try to opt for other courses at the older NITs as it would be extremely beneficial for your career.
  • I would suggest that you do not lose hope after the seventh round of counselling.
  • There would be a special round to fill up vacant seats at the NITs and IIITs.
  • For this round, you are required to submit a fee of INR 1,000 along with the online application form on the CSAB portal.
  • Fill in your desired branch and colleges once more; vacant slots can be seen at the portal.

I am quite confident you'll receive the branch you want after the special round. You can refer to the cutoff details available on various websites to estimate the chances of your getting admission to one of the courses offered by the institution.

Should I take NIT Goa for Electrical and Electronics Engineering or GEC for Civil Engineering? I am interested in both.

AS
Ashu Sethiya Posted On : August 25th, 2021
B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Goa (2024)

Before diving into any conclusion, it is important that you understand the basic difference between B.Tech and B.E degrees. Following which, you have to clarify the doubts you have regarding both NIT Goa and Goa Engineering College.

  • If you weigh the general brand value that arrives with the NIT tag, you will then already be more exposed to the industrial demands and explore better opportunities at NIT.
  • However, there has been a genuine depreciation at Goa Engineering College.
  • You can possibly go out, looking for particular job offers after the completion of the B.E degree but you will obtain better placements by the college cell itself.
  • When talking about the faculty, there are several Ph.D graduates from most of the top institutions who have been teaching at NIT Goa.
  • The highest salary package was 16 LPA at NIT Goa.
  • On the other hand, at GEC, you might or might not secure placement.
  • Their highest package sometimes does not reach even up to 7 LPA.
Categories EEE at NIT Goa Civil at GEC
Course Fee 5.38 lakh 2.90 lakh
Highest CTC 16 LPA 6-7 LPA
Average CTC 6-8 LPA 3.5 LPA
Recruiting Companies TCS, Infosys, Bosch, Schneider Electric, etc. IBM, Wipro, TCS, Tata Steel, etc.

Therefore, it is suggested that you opt for NIT Goa, as it will provide you with better opportunities. They have an active placement cell, which not only helps with placements but also conducts seminars, internships and industrial visits.

How is the hostel facility at NIT Goa in terms of food, internet, and cleanliness?

TB
Tarun Bose Posted On : August 25th, 2021
Studied at NIT Goa (2019)

According to some of my friends studying at NIT Goa, their hostel facilities are not that great in all terms be it food, internet, and cleanliness.

  • No one can find good food at any hostel but it at least should be hygienic.
  • The internet speed is also not that great and on top of that students use that for entertainment purposes.
  • When it comes to cleanliness, It is even worse than the food and the internet.
  • The hostel which NIT Goa provides in the final year is the worst. It is recommended that you stay outside rather than live in the hostels like the M.Tech students.
  • The only thing you need to do to stay out of the hostels is to manage the transportation, and then you are good to go.

Hence, it is quite evident that it's not worth staying in the NIT Goa hostels and a student should prefer to stay out as paying guests or flats.

If you are considering pursuing engineering studies in Central India, you might want to explore the NIT Raipur. Here are some reasons why NIT Raipur could be a great choice for you:

  • Established in 1956, NIT Raipur is one of the oldest engineering institutes in Central India. It is also a part of the prestigious NIT system, which has a reputation for academic excellence and research.
  • The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various engineering fields, including civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and communication, computer science, and more. This means that you have a wide range of choices when it comes to selecting your specialization.
  • NIT Raipur has a well-qualified and experienced faculty that comprises professors, assistant professors, and associate professors. The faculty members are experts in their respective fields and have experience working in both industry and academia. The students have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects and publish their findings in reputed international journals.
  • In the last decade, NIT Raipur has made significant improvements in its infrastructure. The institute has a sprawling campus that covers over 100 acres and has modern facilities such as lecture halls, seminar rooms, libraries, computer labs, and sports facilities. The campus is also Wi-Fi enabled, which means that students can access the internet from anywhere on campus.
  • NIT Raipur has a good track record when it comes to placements. The institute has a dedicated training and placement cell that works with students to help them prepare for recruitment processes. Some of the top companies that have visited the campus for recruitment include Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Infosys, TCS, and more.

Comparing NIT Raipur with NIT Goa, it is important to note that each institute has its strengths and weaknesses. However, based on the information available, NIT Raipur seems to have an edge in terms of academic reputation, faculty expertise, research opportunities, infrastructure, and placements.

If a person gets CS at NIT Goa, which IIIT CS he should opt that is better than NIT Goa?

BG
Barkha Gupta Posted On : August 26th, 2021
M.E. Software Engineering, Jadavpur University (2019)

The top four IIITs in the country are – IIIT Hyderabad; IIIT Bangalore; IIIT Delhi; and IIIT Allahabad

If you get CS in any of the above-mentioned IIITs, just go for it The next two top IIITs are IIIT Gwalior and IIITDM Jabalpur. But there is a huge gap between these two. You may consider these two as well over NIT Goa. But then it is tricky and it should be left on your preference.

Generally, if you go to any NIT, then the topmost paying salary jobs are usually taken up by the CS guys of that college. So you will get a very good placement opportunity at NIT Goa as well if you get CS. If you are getting any other IIIT other than the top 6, then I would suggest you stick with NIT Goa.

Which is better: NIT Goa ECE or NITK EEE?

PR
Piyali Rao Posted On : August 24th, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2021)

Among these two courses and colleges, you should probably choose EEE at NITK. Having to know some people studying in both these institutes, I can say that the infrastructure and facilities provided at NIT Goa are very poor, it is also below NITK in terms of rankings.

  • The campus of NITK is very beautiful with lush green surroundings. NIT Goa is much smaller and might be built inside a state government-run college. Students can enjoy leisure time along with their studies.
  • The faculty is very talented and highly experienced.
  • The course curriculum is updated according to the recent industry trends.
  • The placement opportunities are excellent. A lot of companies visit the campus for interviews.
  • NITK is also better if you want to do higher studies like machine learning, etc.
Categories EEE at NIT Surathkal
Course Fee 5.40 lakh
Highest CTC 14-15 LPA
Average CTC 8-9 LPA
Recruiting Companies Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, nVidia, Western Digital, etc.

Hence, choosing EEE at NITK will be a better option as the faculty, infrastructure, and placements of this college is great and there is also a very good scope of higher studies.

How is NIT Goa as compared to other NIT's?

AP
Anubrata Pandey Posted On : August 23rd, 2021
Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at NIT Rourkela (2021)

It depends on which NIT you are comparing it to. NIT Goa is a tier-3 NIT and is still on its way to exhibit its credibility, except for the name received from the government. This is possibly the only resemblance it has with other top-tier NITs.

NIT Goa can reasonably be ranked alongside other bottom quartile NITs, including the ones situated in North-Eastern India (except NIT Silchar) and other NITs located at Puducherry and other similar places. All these NITs are struggling to prove their values as of now.
