IIT Kharagpur was the first Indian Institute of Technology founded on August 18, 1951. Its foundation was a significant milestone in India's technical education history. It was established as a public technical and research university by the Government of India. It was also the first IIT to be recognised as an institute of national importance. 

A 22-member community recommended the establishment of IITs in India along the lines of MIT. The first IIT was founded in Kharagpur with the name adopted before the formal inauguration by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

The institute accepts GATE scores to provide admission to its MTech degree in Manufacturing Science and Engineering. Candidates are required to meet the cutoff which generally varies every year. The Central Library at IIT Kharagpur is one of the largest technical libraries in Asia, spanning over 20,000 square meters. It houses more than 400,000 books, along with thousands of journals, e-books, and digital resources.

The 65th edition of IIT Kharagpur’s Spring Fest was an exciting event. The theme, ‘Downtown Delirium – A Kaleidoscope of Urban Vision,’ conjures up vibrant imagery of city life and creativity. 

During the festival, a diverse array of activities, including cultural performances, musical acts, and literary events takes place. Renowned artists graced the stage, and workshops provided opportunities for skill-building and learning. It’s wonderful to see such enthusiasm and talent converge at this student-organized celebration!
