The moment you enter the college and attend classes initially, chances are that you may come across certain seniors from 2nd year who might lecture you. It would mostly be about how you should avail NIT buses/wear formals/regularly attending the library and so on.

Joining NIT Jamshedpur is the most worthwhile decision you will always feel. With a small campus and high placements, NIT Jamshedpur makes a huge difference when compared to other NIT’s and other governmental colleges. It is situated in the TATA town which plays a huge role in placements as the TATA motors and TATA powers pick core branches students. And again, the fees here are quite affordable and expenses are less.
Now, coming to your question, you will be given a fee concession on the basis of your family's annual income. You will get a fee concession if your family income is below a certain amount.
Note: During fee submission, you will have to pay the whole fee for the semester. At the end of the year, your tuition fees will be remitted for both semesters together.
You might have got an overview of how worthy it is to join NIT Jamshedpur if one opts for it. With Fewer fees, easily accessible things, and in the main town of Tata which helps in easy placements. It’s all good to go here.
There are several criteria on which MHRD ranks Engineering colleges/ universities.
According to me, NIT Jamshedpur lacks good academic infrastructure. This is one of the main hindrances in its path to glory. The teacher-student ratio isn’t that good. For a course like B.Tech CSE, the staff strength is not even one-fourth of the student population. By staff I also mean the Associate Professors, Ad Hoc faculties, Lab Assistants and clerks.
But NIT Jamshedpur has a good placement record. The academics of this institution are top-notch. It has given some of the best brains to this country.
There are several other criteria for NIRF rankings. NIT Jamshedpur lags in some of them but performs well in others. It did rank in the top 100 Engineering colleges in NIRF Rankings, a few years back.
NIT Jamshedpur has its own strengths. You should definitely visit the campus and talk to some seniors/alumni. Do not base your opinion strictly on rankings.
I will first give you a brief about each. Civil deals with building houses, bridges etc. Metallurgy deals with building high quality metals which are then used in houses, bridges, cars etc.
I’ll compare these two at NIT Jamshedpur to help you with your decision-making-
I recommend you research both these branches and then make your decision. If you have interest in one of these, go for that branch. Other than that, as per me, the Metallurgy branch is better.
Honestly, I wouldn’t suggest you forgo the offer from Tata Steel as it’s not everyone one gets to work in that prestigious company. In my opinion, I should try working there for at least a year and prepare for GATE also. You can go to the educational hubs, write mock exams, and give GATE in the coming year. If you manage to get a decent rank in GATE, you can resign and go for a PSU. But if you don’t then you will have a stable job already.
However, if you are very keen to get into a PSU, then resign from your current job and go to Delhi for full-time preparation. If you are to get a PSU well and good but if you don’t remember you have an experience of 1 year at Tata Steel that will help you.
Make a wise decision after considering all the factors!
As a student of NIT Jamshedpur, I can tell you of some of its benefits which you might not get in some other NIT(s).
NIT Jamshedpur is a good institute which offers a unique experience. You should check out all the details about it .
There is no specific rule regarding formal wear at NIT Jamshedpur. However, it is generally considered appropriate to dress in a professional manner, especially when attending classes or meetings with faculty members. Jeans and other casual clothing may be worn on campus. One of my friends there told me that this rule is just declared by the seniors who want to harass the juniors in some way as there aren't any official notices or announcements regarding that.
A senior of mine from school used to be a student of NIT Jamshedpur. She has said that the first-year students are given the mega hostel. It is the best building of NIT Jamshedpur. My senior was so comfortable in her hostel that she often used to skip classes to stay indoors.
There are drawbacks too as listed below:
My senior found her hostel very comfortable while she was a student there.
From the second year onwards, you will be allotted single rooms, unlike the first year.
