SOGI Collaborates with IIT Roorkee, IIM Bangalore, and NUJS for Revolutionary Initiative

New Delhi: The Skilled Online Games Institute (SOGI) has partnered with esteemed academic institutions such as IIT Roorkee, IIM Bangalore, and NUJS to lead a pioneering initiative dedicated to exploring the unexplored realms of the $3 billion skilled online games industry.

In response to the critical need for well-informed decision-making, SOGI aims to dispel the "knowledge vacuum" surrounding industry policies by fostering strategic collaborations that yield genuine, research-backed insights.

Acknowledging the infancy stage of the Indian online games sector and the consequent lack of comprehensive knowledge, SOGI is dedicated to evolving into the primary repository for all industry-related information. Through strategic partnerships with esteemed institutions, the institute strives to narrow existing informational gaps, cultivating an environment where regulators can shape policies based on factual understanding rather than speculation.

To lead SOGI, the skilled online games industry has enlisted corporate affairs veteran Amrit Kiran Singh. With over two decades of experience, Singh has steered the multinational alcohol industry as the Chairman of the International Spirits and Wines Alliance of India.

Over the past 18 months, he has played a pivotal role in the government's establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Task Force on Online Gaming, culminating in MEITY's designation as the nodal ministry for Online Games.

As the President of the Skilled Online Games Institute, Singh highlights that the Indian Skilled Online Games Industry is a growing sector with immense potential.

Highlighting the global scale, he shared that the online games industry is nearly three times larger than the combined size of the movie and music industries, boasting an estimated turnover of $159.0 billion compared to the movie industry's $42 billion and the music industry's $20 billion in 2020.

Singh, further, added that India must take part in this huge industry without shackles to unlock its full potential.

SOGI's mission extends national boundaries, with ongoing discussions aimed at establishing international partnerships. The institute has initiated dialogues with key ministries, including the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), and the Ministry of Finance.

Presenting a compelling case against the inefficacy of advisories and bans on illegal gambling sites, SOGI underscores the necessity for inter-ministerial cooperation to combat this issue. As part of its comprehensive strategy, SOGI is systematically organizing global information on all aspects of the industry, identifying informational gaps, and conducting research in collaboration with leading global institutions.

Further, the objective is to build a robust database accessible to all stakeholders, offering a balanced view of both positive and negative aspects to facilitate the development of a well-informed policy framework for the industry.

The research collaborations involving SOGI, IIT Roorkee, IIM Bangalore, and NUJS are poised to redefine India's gaming landscape, delivering essential data and insights crucial for informed decision-making. These strategic partnerships aspire to unlock the industry's potential, stimulate innovation, and foster a responsible and flourishing gaming sector that makes substantial contributions to the nation's growth.
