Indore: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has introduced a unique course to impart science and mathematical knowledge from ancient texts in Sanskrit. 

IIT Indore has curated the course titled "Understanding Classical Scientific Texts of India in an Immersive Sanskrit Environment" to expose the present generation to ancient knowledge.

The decision was made by the Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. He tweeted that this unique initiative by the institute will help the New Education Policy 2020’s vision.

The director of IIT Indore, Professor Neelash Kumar replied, “Ancient texts of India, originally composed in Sanskrit, have a rich heritage of mathematical and scientific knowledge and the present generation is unaware of this. We started this course to make them aware of this ancient knowledge in Sanskrit itself.”

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) sponsored course online classes has started from 22 August and will continue till 2 October. The course has a total of 62 hours of online classes. More than 750 candidates have participated from all around the globe.

Professor Neelash Kumar, the officiating director of IIT (Indore) said, "Ancient texts of India, originally composed in Sanskrit, have a rich heritage of mathematical and scientific knowledge and the present generation is unaware of this. We started this course to make them aware of this ancient knowledge in Sanskrit itself.”

"The NEP-2020 will make the country multilingual, hopefully. It will stand on the basis of Indianness and reach international limits, it will be effective and will help in ensuring the continuance of dialogue. It will also be inclusive," said the Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

According to IIT officials, the course is divided into two different parts. The first part consists of the concepts of Sanskrit to build the understanding of students in the language and the second part has the important concepts of classical mathematics in Sanskrit text. 

At the end of the course, participants will be awarded a certificate after successfully qualifying the course examination.
