IIT Madras Prepares To Host SPIC MACAY's 9th International Convention From May 20 to 26

New Delhi: IIT Madras will host the 9th Annual International Convention of Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) from May 20 to May 26, 2024. The institute has already held the meeting twice, once in 1996 and the next one in 2014.

SPIC MACAY 2024 is going to be a week-long celebration of Indian culture attended by over 1,500 students and volunteers from around India and the world. Participants will have an understanding of Indian culture, tradition, and ethics via interactions with famous artists. The convention is only open to school and college students who have registered for the above mentioned event. Accommodation and meals will be provided free of charge.

According to the Director of IIT Madras, Prof. V. Kamakoti, "Culture is the spine of every country. We are proud of the diversity of cultural events offered throughout our country. "SPICMACAY brings them all to our campus." He also added that the goal of organizing such a convention is to create a unique ashram-like ambiance that will have an impact on the younger generation.

While speaking about the event, Prof. Sathyanarayana N. Gummadi, Dean Students, stated, "This is the third time that IIT Madras has co-organized this event, SPICMACAY. A staff of over 150 faculty, undergraduate, graduate, and research scientists is actively involved in the seamless operation of this event. This is an excellent opportunity for the IIT Madras community to experience a rich cultural festival for one week."

According to Mr Radha Mohan Tiwari, National Chairperson of SPIC MACAY, SPIC MACAY is celebrating 47 years of existence as a youth movement, with IIT Madras playing a pivotal role. With the assistance of IIT Madras and other supporters, the team was able to give all participants free housing, food, and seminars. They will provide every one of the almost 1300 participants from throughout India with the opportunity to learn one art form every day and see performances by India's best artists. I hope the Convention meets its goal and makes a difference in the lives of the kids.
