ISRO Chairman S Somanath addressed the students of IIT Bombay and urged IITians to join the Indian Space Programme.
New Delhi: S Somanath, The Chairman of The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) addressed students during the annual IIT Bombay TechFest, the festival of science and technology, hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. During his 54-minute long speech, he appealed to the students of IIT to join ISRO and contribute to India’s Space Programs.
As per reports, Somanath said, “I will be happy if more IITians join the space programme and participate in building the nation’s space projects”.
According to the information, The Chair of ISRO discussed future projects of ISRO including the human space flight program Gaganyaan, the first mission to send humans to the moon, and the creation of a moon-based economy, which will be executed by ISRO by 2047. Somanath also mentioned the launch of the Indian space station ‘Bharath Antriksh Station’ by 2035, with the initial phase set for 2028.
The chairman also mentioned that ISRO will look into potential research collaborations with Indian institutes, especially in the fields of robotics and material science. He specifically called upon IIT Bombay to contribute with robotic activities for in-orbit services.
After his speech, he related a story about how his team went to an IIT to hire engineers in October last year, and 60% of the applicants left after seeing the compensation schedule in the presentation. He addressed concerns about students opting for lucrative international jobs. He also answered the questions raised by students.
