New Delhi: The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has granted INR 60 crores to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad Cluster, under the Sophisticated Analytical & Technical Help Institutes (SATHI) scheme

Only three clusters have been selected for this scheme. The proposed centre at IIT-Hyderabad, the Centre for In-Situ and Correlative Microscopy (SATHI-CISCoM), is set to become a hub for high class characterisation.

This envisioned centre will be the first of its kind, facilitating real-time characterisation across multiple length scales for fundamental and industrial research and development purposes, as per an official release by IIT-Hyderabad.

Led by Prof BS Murty, Director of IIT-Hyderabad, and spearheaded by a team of researchers, including Principal Investigator Dr. Sai Rama Krishna Malladi, the SATHI-CISCoM facility enjoys support from 15 academic, research, and industrial organisations contributing a total of 16+ Cr. Some collaborators include the University of Hyderabad, Telangana State Council for Higher Education, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur, National Institute of Technology Raipur, and others.

The initiative, championed by diverse scientific disciplines such as physical sciences, chemistry, biology, and pharmaceutical studies, seeks to unite scientists in addressing common scientific goals by utilising sophisticated microscopy techniques.

In an official statement, the institute highlights the collaborative nature of the initiative, emphasising the importance of bringing together experts from various scientific domains to achieve shared objectives that necessitate advanced microscopy methods.
