New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Roorkee) has recently unveiled its highly anticipated Research Awards for the year 2022. These awards recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by the researcher in their respective field.

IIT Roorkee research awards are available to all Indian nationals and have been in existence since the university's inception. Established in 1847, the university was named as College Civil Engineering, Roorkee, but later it got its status in 1949 and IIT status in 2001.

Kanishka Biswas, a professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, in the new chemistry unit has received the Khosla National Award (Sciences). He has contributed to the field of renewable energy and clean environment.

Over the past ten years has reported original and significant discoveries in the field of thermoelectric and solid-state inorganic chemistry. RP Saini, a professor in the hydro and renewable energy department of IIT Roorkee has been awarded the HRED Hydro and Renewable Energy Award.

He has done a significant amount of research related to hydropower, solar energy, and integrated renewable energy sources.

The recipient of AS Arya Disaster Prevention Award, DP Kanungo, is the chief scientist and group leader of the Geo-Hazard Risk Reduction Group of CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee. Deepankar Choudhury, the sole geotechnical engineer from India elected as a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), has been awarded the Gopal Ranjan Technology Award.

Satish Chandra, a professor in the civil engineering department at the IIT Roorkee, who contributed in the areas of highway capacity and bituminous material characterization has been awarded the SR Mehra Memorial Award. IIT Roorkee director KK Pant has congratulated all the winners and said

“Many outstanding researchers and institutions have been recognized with these awards for their research excellence. Awards like these are a great way to recognize research excellence in India. By advancing the frontiers of knowledge, impactful research benefits the country and the world".
