New Delhi: The Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Mr. BS Bhalla, has announced a comprehensive study titled "Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies." 

Conducted in collaboration with Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance, and Prof. KK Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, the research was led by Prof. Arun Kumar from IIT Roorkee. The release event took place at the Atal Akshaya Urja Bhawan in MNRE, New Delhi on November 29, 2023.

This groundbreaking initiative explores a variety of grid-scale energy storage solutions, envisioning a sustainable energy future for India. It tackles crucial facets of the power sector, underscoring the importance of a resilient and sustainable energy landscape in the country. 

Moreover, this initiative presents practical recommendations to enhance the integration of renewable energy and elevate the efficiency of grid-scale energy storage. 

Key Findings from the Study on Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies

The results highlighted the importance of proactive policies, regulatory frameworks, and strategic investments to stimulate the adoption of advanced grid-scale energy storage technologies.

Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance and an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, recognized India's prominent position in global renewable energy adoption. Dr. Mathur praised the report expressing that India has emerged as a global leader in scaling up renewable energy technologies. As these technologies witness rapid adoption, energy storage becomes indispensable for grid stability. This report is a commendable and fitting effort in that context, providing valuable insights for the sustainable advancement of their energy landscape, Mathur revealed.
