IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhilai Join Hands for Tribal Development and Promote Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)

New Delhi: The IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhilai have entered into an agreement aimed at enhancing academic and research collaboration between the two institutions. The agreement outlines a mutual commitment to jointly conduct seminars, symposiums, conferences, workshops, and short-term training programs.

Through this partnership, the two IITs, IIT Bhilai and IIT Roorkee aim to preserve and promote Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), aiming to contribute to socio-economic development in tribal areas. The focus includes research on traditional medicinal plants, studies on tribal culture, examination of agricultural practices in tribal regions, and the promotion of financial literacy among tribal communities.

This collaborative effort signifies the institutions' commitment to raising awareness among the youth about Indian culture and heritage, aligning seamlessly with the government's vision of “Viksit Bharat@2047”.

Furthermore, the partnership between IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhilai will actively support the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems into the education system.

The heads of both institutions, Professor K K Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, and Professor Rajiv Prakash, Director of IIT Bhilai faculty, have formally signed the agreement at IIT Bhilai.

The Director of IIT Roorkee Faculty expressed his delight with the collaboration, stating that the institute is pleased to partner with IIT Bhilai, and this MoU highlights their dedication to fostering innovative solutions for the current education system. Through this joint effort, their goal is to bridge the gap between ancient and modern education, facilitating both basic and translational research, and contributing to their shared vision of 'Viksit Bharat' – a developed India. 

Professor Prakash added that their collaboration will generate fresh opportunities for research and development, while also championing the promotion of their ancient knowledge and heritage. 

Both IITs are dedicated to exchanging knowledge and advancing projects in various domains such as sustainable and rural development, ancient Indian science, Fintech, health science, agriculture, artificial intelligence, complementary and alternative medicine, life management, environment, renewable energy, food processing, tourism management, languages, peace and conciliation, music, humanities, and common interests.

The directors expressed their happiness at this new chapter in the partnership between IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhilai, offering full support from their respective sides to foster enduring and mutually beneficial collaborations between the two institutions.
