IIT Placement 2024 Report Reveals 35 to 40% of Students with No Placement Offers

New Delhi: The Global IIT Alumni Support Group recently released data regarding the IIT placement drive 2024. According to the alumni group, around 35-40% of IIT students across campuses have been unable to find placements so far. The placement drive 2024 at most IITs ends around May 2024. According to the report, unplaced students number around 50-60% at newer IITs such as IIT Indore, IIT Patna, or IIT Bhilai.

The Founder of the IIT Global Alumni Support Group, Dheeraj Singh, expressed his disappointment at the current state of affairs. He said, “This is a very disheartening state of affairs for the top young talents of our country. IITs should help unplaced students in finding a job. This is a serious matter considering the large number of IIT student suicides in the recent past.”

He also expressed his worries about the post-pandemic economy. “Our economy is not producing enough jobs for youth and we are heading towards greater unemployment and economic inequality which is a worrisome trend,” he said. Recently a study also revealed the dip in IIT Bombay Placements with more than 700 students unplaced.

How Many Students Have No Placement Offers at Different IITs?

The following table will elucidate the number or percentage of students unplaced so far at various IITs:

Institute Percentage/Number of Students without any placement offers
IIT Madras 900
IIT Delhi 900
IIT Bombay 1100 (46%)
IIT Kanpur 500
IIT Kharagpur 1385 (52%)
IIT Indore 49%
IIT Patna 41%
IIT Bhilai 63%

Singh also lamented the salary packages offered during the IIT placements, saying, “Salaries offered by the recruiting companies have gone down substantially from crore plus packages in phase one to barely Rs 3-4 lakhs per annum currently. Paradoxically, at the same time, the number of billionaires our country is producing is at an all-time high,” Singh said.
