IIT Madras Startup Mindgrove Technologies Launches ‘Secure IoT’

New Delhi: Mindgrove Technologies, a startup incubated by IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation and IIT Madras Incubation Cell and backed by Peak XV Partners, has introduced Secure IoT, India’s first high-performance SoC (system on chip).

What is a SoC?

A system-on-chip (SoC) has various electronic components into a single chip, functioning like a mini-computer. It is embedded into the printed circuit board (PCB) and utilised in various devices, enhancing their compactness and efficiency.

Founded by Shashwath TR and Sharan Srinivas J, Mindgrove aims to deliver energy-efficient and cost-effective solutions for IoT, vision, automobiles, and more.

Mindgrove's chip offers programmability, flexibility, security, and high computing power, overpowering various other smart devices from wearables to connected home devices. The company also provides design support to Indian brands, fostering innovation and local production.

Shashwath TR, CEO and Co-Founder of Mindgrove Technologies says “The pandemic revealed the wide gap between high-end and low-end players in the embedded systems space, with the latter prioritising cost and volume over the chip’s actual performance.”

With Secure IoT, Indian Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can incorporate an Indian SoC into their products, reducing the cost of their feature-rich devices without compromising quality. The IoT operates at 700 MHz.

The new indigenous chip is priced 30 per cent lower than similar chips and is the sole Indian chip available commercially in this segment. Secure IoT is India's first high-performance microcontroller chip, offering versatility, adaptability, and top-notch security features.

This RISC-V-based chip addresses the market demand for budget-friendly, high-performing chips. It is one of the premium and budget options in the systems domain.
