IIT Madras Awards 177 BS Data Science and Applications Degrees; Program Registration Window Opens on June 15

IIT Madras conducted a convocation ceremony and awarded 177 degrees to various students in BS in Data Science and Applications. The application window opens on June 15. Read details here!

New Delhi: IIT Madras has conducted a certificate distribution ceremony for its graduate batch of BS (Data Science and Applications). Over 29000 students have enrolled for the BS program, and 25000 students have enrolled for the May 2024 term. The application window for the program will open on June 15, 2024.

About 177 graduates participated in the program, and IIT Madras awarded the first batch of 10 BS graduates. These students completed the four-year program in three years and met the credit requirements early.

About 26 students received BSc in Programming and Data Science degrees, 120 students received provisional BSc degree certificates, 122 students earned Diplomas in Data Science, 19 students acquired Diplomas in Programming, 10 students earned both Diplomas in Data Science and Programming and 411 students were granted provisional Double Diplomas.

This is the world's first four-year BS Degree in Data Science and Applications, offering early exit options at the foundation, Diploma, or BSc degree levels. IIT Madras Alum (1998 BTech), Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, the Automotive Division of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd., said, “It is truly amazing to see the kind of students going through this program as I saw an IAS Officer, cardiologists and even an octogenarian. This program truly democratizes education without diluting the quality of program...I have no doubt that each of you are going to be extremely successful in your careers.”

Kamakoti, Director, of IIT Madras, said, “As we see hundreds of students collecting their degrees and provisional certificates, we are excited that we have, as an Institute, contributed to your professional development. With the advent of AI and massive digitization, and also with the advent of advanced communication techniques like 5G, India is aspiring to become a multi trillion economy at the earliest possible time.”

Top Performers

Ayushi Sharad Gang completed the BS credit requirements in 3 years with a CGPA of 9.74. Dr. Nikhil Sadineni scored 9.95 CGPA, followed by Sherry Thomas, who scored 9.94. Sanjana Mohan, a marketing Associate, scored 9.94 CGPA, and Srikanth scored 9.91. In the Diploma in Data Science, Shilpa Paul and Aashrit B.K. scored a CGPA of 9.94, and in the Direct Diploma for Programming, Ashish Pukale, a System Engineer at TCS, topped with a CGPA of 9.91.
