IIT Madras Alumni Pavan Davuluri Appointed as New Head of Microsofts Windows and Surface Teams

New Delhi: Microsoft has appointed Pavan Davuluri, an alumnus of IIT Madras, as the new Chief of Microsoft Windows and Surface teams. This change was announced after former head Panos Panay switched jobs to work with Amazon.

The Windows group and the Surface group operate separately. However, since Windows team head Mikhail Parakhin expressed his interest in wanting “new roles”, Davuluri has taken over both teams as the head.

Davuluri has worked with Microsoft for more than 23 years. He joined the company after completing a PG degree from the University of Maryland. He did his graduation in India from IIT Madras. Davuluri will also head a merger within the Microsoft structure. The departments of Windows Experiences and Windows + Devices will be rolled into one cohesive department of Experiences + Devices under his leadership.

The plan for this merger was revealed by Microsoft’s head of Experiences and Devices Rajesh Jha. Speaking on the merger, he said, “This [merger] will enable us to take a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud for this AI era.”

He explained the structure of the merger as such: “Pavan Davuluri will lead this team and continue to report to me. Shilpa Ranganathan and Jeff Johnson and their teams will report directly to Pavan. The Windows team will continue to work closely with the Microsoft AI team on AI, silicon, and experiences.”
