IIT Kharagpur Reviews Its Curricula According to the National Education Policy 2020; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The undergraduate and postgraduate curricula of IIT Kharagpur have been reviewed and updated while taking into account the National Education Policy (NEP) and its guiding principles.

The institute's initiative to embrace a multidisciplinary approach to teaching includes the launch of an MBBS program in medicine at the B C Roy Institute of Medical Science and Technology.

The selection of electives has been expanded in recent UG and PG curricula, allowing students to select disciplines from across the institute. According to a press release from the institute, a new category of programs dubbed Interdisciplinary Dual Degree Programs has been launched, allowing students to pursue both a B.Tech and an M.Tech.

The inclusion of NEP 2020 in the academic curriculum will increase employment based on the entrepreneurship concept of becoming an employer rather than an employee, said Prof. V K Tewari, Director, IIT Kharagpur.

The multiple entry/exit policy allows any student to take a break from their courses to get work experience before returning to finish their academic programs. The short-term certification programmes for creating short-term and long-term training programs to provide opportunities for skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling, he added, highlighting the strategic implementation initiatives of IIT Kharagpur on NEP 2020, are another aspect that increases the flexibility of NEP 2020.

The summer internship for the IIT Kharagpur UG programs 2023 lasted eight weeks. Now, a student's internship can last up to eight months and involve either industry study or internship.

The PG programs have also been suggested for the internship. All bachelor's degrees in science have been lengthened to four years as well. The bachelor's program in technology was already four years long.

IIT Kharagpur has established an office for international students and is working hard to boost the number of overseas students accepted into its degrees. According to which department/center/school will create initiatives, evaluate its own performance, and meet the targets established therein, which could subsequently serve as the foundation for additional funding from the institute, each department will build strategic departmental development plans.
