IIT Indore's Satellite Campus to be Established in Ujjain; Check Details Here

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has decided to establish its satellite campus in Ujjain with a mandate to conduct international-level research, Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav said. 

IIT Indore's new educational centre will take its administrative and academic decisions independently and it will play a significant role in promoting employment and self-employment. Also, It will accommodate students and staff quarters. 

Minister Mohan Yadav said that IIT Indore has devised an initial Detailed Project Report (DPR) for establishing a satellite centre in Ujjain.

The satellite campus will be set up spanning on a 100-acre land and will be engaged in international-level research and higher education for students, the minister said.

Further, Yadav said that IIT Indore's satellite campus will take care of the research work for industries based in Indore and Ujjain. 

Recently, a discussion with Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar regarding the issue of setting up a new educational institution in Ujjain, considering its rich heritage, in the area of knowledge and science, astronomy and culture, the minister said. 

Mohan Yadav said that in the first phase, there's a proposal to establish four national-level educational centres and an industrial research park in Ujjain. 

He said that it includes IIT Indore Industrial Research Park on the lines of IIT Mumbai and Chennai for creating more employment and self-employment facilities. It will also include the following centres, 

  • A Centre for water
  • A Centre for astronomy, space and heritage in view of Ujjain’s importance in astronomical science
  • A Centre for Indian scientific knowledge system
  • JP Narayan Centre for excellence in humanities

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Indore offers four-year, fulltime PhD/ research-level courses in various specializations including Humanities, Engineering, and Sciences. 


Candidates willing to pursue their doctorate course from IIT Indore must hold a master’s degree in Sciences or ME/ M.Tech in the relevant field from a recognized university with 60% (55% for SC/ST/PWD). Final selection of the candidates will be based on their performance in the entrance exam, GATE / UGC NET/ CSIR / JRF followed by an interview or screening test.
