IIT Indore Collaborates with L&T for Joint Research in Renewable Energy and Software Control

L&T, the renowned engineering and construction conglomerate, has entered into an agreement with IIT Indore to engage in joint research initiatives, focusing on renewable energy management and control software, as part of their commitment to research

New Delhi: Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a prominent engineering and construction conglomerate, has announced that it has entered into an agreement with IIT Indore to collaborate on research and development initiatives spanning diverse fields, including renewable energy management and control software.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formalized by L&T Construction's digital energy solutions division within the power transmission and distribution business. 

This agreement was established between IIT Indore and L&T, to facilitate the exploration and pursuit of activities across various avenues of engagement

The company stated that the endeavor aims to foster cooperation between industry and academia, promoting progress in research and development concerning the integration and control of renewable energy technologies.
 

As part of this partnership, L&T's Center of Excellence for Smart Grid Solutions will be established, facilitating collaboration with the educational and experiential programs for students at IIT Indore. 

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally executed in the presence of notable individuals. It was signed by Prof. I.A. Palani, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Indore faculty, and Dr. Jayant Kumar, who serves as the Head of Digital Energy Solutions at L&T's Power Transmission and Distribution division. 

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. T. Madhava Das, the Whole-Time Director and Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) of Larsen & Toubro Limited, along with Prof. Suhas Joshi, who holds the position of Director at IIT Indore. 

In addition, the event saw the participation of Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh, the Regional Head of Operations (India & Asia Pacific) for Digital Energy Solutions, as well as Mr. Devendra Vishwakarma, the Chief Technology Officer at L&T PT&D Digital Energy Solutions, alongside several faculty members from IIT Indore.

Professor Joshi expressed that IIT Indore is committed to offering significant research resources and supporting research initiatives through various avenues such as R&D projects, dissertations, student projects, and incubation projects. 

Further, the institute is pleased to note that L&T PT&D has agreed to make their advanced Digital Energy Solutions Labs in Chennai and Dallas, USA available to IIT Indore students as part of this program, facilitating project work and collaborative research endeavors.

Mr. T. Madhava Das conveyed that L&T's objective is to foster innovation by actively participating with IIT Indore to encourage entrepreneurial learning and the incubation of technologies in the realm of Digital Energy Solutions. 

The intention is to embark on joint research and development projects in areas of mutual interest, which encompass Renewable Energy Management and Control Software, Cloud, Edge, and Internet of Things (IoT) Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), Embedded Systems, VLSI Circuit and System Design, and Power Electronics, Das concluded.
