IIT Indore: 4 Day Lecture Series to be Held on Nobel Prize 2020; Check Details Here

IIT Indore is gearing up to organize a 4-day public lecture series on Nobel Prize 2020 from December 21 to 24 as a part of its outreach program. Renowned personalities will deliver lectures over a period of 4 days. 

The first lecture in the event organized by IIT Indore will be on Nobel Prize in Physics which will be presented by Raychaudhury, Director, Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune. This will be followed by a lecture on Nobel Prize in Chemistry delivered by Prof GN Sastry, Director, CSIR NEIST, Jorhat.

For the year 2020, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded one half of the Nobel Prize in Physics to Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez for the discovery of a supermassive object at the center of our galaxy and the other to Roger Penrose for the discovery that black hole formation is an accurate prediction of Einstein’s general theory of relativity.

Meanwhile, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was shared between Jennifer A Doudna University of California, Berkeley, USA and Emmanuelle Charpentier, Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens, Berlin for creating a method of genome editing. 

A talk on Nobel Prize in Economics will be delivered on the 2nd day by Dr Jeevant Rampal, IIM Ahmedabad. This year’s Sveriges Riksbank Prize for Economic Sciences has been awarded to Robert B Wilson and Paul R Milgrom for inventing new auction formats and improving auction theory.

Professor of Literature and Director of the Centre for Learning, Prof Shormisth Panja of Delhi University, will deliver a talk on Nobel Prize in Literature on the 3rd day. This will be followed by a lecture from Bishow Parajuli, Country Director, UN World Food Programme on Nobel Peace Prize.

Louise Glück bagged the Nobel Prize for Literature for her poem “Her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal.” On the other hand, the World Food Programme (WFP) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its contributions to combat hunger. 

Director of National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Prof Saumitra Das will deliver the last lecture on the 4th day on the Nobel Prize in Medicine. For this year, Michael Houghton, Charles M Rice, and Harvey J Alter won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their discovery of the Hepatitis C virus.
